The charge resulted from a scuffle Taylor had with Birmingham po- , lice May 1, 194. w hen the senator tried to enter a Negro youth meet ing through a dtr marked 'Ncgro entrance." Presumably it will now he up to Alabama to begin any proceed ings to enforce the sentence. Tay lor is now in Idaho. The incident occurred while Taylor was a candidate for vice president on the Progressive party ticket with Henry Wallace. Th senator said his arrest would serve a a test of Birmingham's laws re quiring separation o( Negroes and whites.
