TO BE OR NOT TO EE on
the air? That is the question.
Whether KRNR will carry MDL'i
"Reporter's Roundup" tonight
8:30-9:0O p.m.) depends on how
soon we get a negative or affirma
tive nod from down Los Angeles
way. Lawrence Spivak and Martha
Rountree, owners and producers
of the former MDL feature, "Meet
the press." have sued the Mutual
Broadcasting system for SI ,250,000
claiming Mutual replaced their
program with "Reporter's Round
up." which closely resembles
"Meet the Press" in its basic for
mat. In a letter received by KRNR

"DO Ml H
from "Meet the Press" producers
Rountree and Spivak, a warning
was issued lo individual stations
against carrying the program "Re
porter's Roundup." although it is
available for broadcast via the
Mutual uelwork lines. KRNR Man
ager Leroy Hiatt is now in Los
Angeles, where he will meet with
Mutual-Don Lee executives and
determine today or tomorrow
whether KRNR should carry
"Roundup.". Senator Robert A.
Tafr was to be this week's inter
view guest on thcprogram.If not
carried tonight In us "live" broad
cast (8:30-9:00 p.m.), "Reporter's
Koundup" will be replaced by
"The Mysterious Traveler." If
word is received later than 8:30 to
night that we may carry the pro
gram, it will be released on (ape
recording Saturday, (7:30-8:00 p.
m.), one time only.
Very well pleased with the Ful
ton Lewis Jr. response . . .Forty
cards and letters received within
a week's time in answer to two
requests made in this column. No
inducements whatever except loy
alty to Fulton Lewis Jr. and we
got the above number of replies.
A great many interpreted the ap
peal for letters to indicate that
Lewis might be removed from our
program schedule . . . which is
certainly not the case. His news
commentary will continue to be
aired 4:00 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. daily,
and the listenership for both broad
casts seems to be evenly distrib
uted, half and half, as evidenced
through our mail-poll. Our sin
cerest thanks to those who have
responded and who are continuing
to respond to the appeal. , .

banese and tenor James Melton
