VISITORS HONORED AT UELAND HOME 1 ON SUNDAY EVENING Out of town guests at the home of Miss Alice Ueland were hon ored Sunday evening at a buffet supper. Present were Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Knollin of Eutjene, Miss Emma Ueland of Glendale, Calif., and Miss Cora Ueland of Los An geles. Mrs. Knollin is the former Edilh Ueland of this city. Mr. Knollin is a professor in the Hhysicial Edu cation department at the Univer sity of Oregon; Miss Emma Ueland is instructor in home eco nomics and crafts at Glendale col lege, Glendale, Calif.; and Miss Cora Ueland is supervisor of the division of dental hygiene, Univer sity of Southern California at Los Angeles. LUNCHEON AND BRIDGE ENJOYED BY COUNTRY CLUB WOMEN Women of the Country club met Thursday at a 12:3(1 o'clock lunch con at the clubhouse. Bridge was played during the afternoon. Cov ers were laid for the Mesdames Emily E. Judd, George Marshall, Harry LeBeau, Walter Fisher, Les ter Twohy, 1. J. Bean, Roy Scdell, James Hughes, A. J. Murray, R. D. Bridges, Clyde Knight, E. R. Harvey, H. C. Stearns, W. F. Amiot, S. M. Moore and waller Brydges. High scores for the afternoon were won by Mrs. Brydges, Mrs. R. D. Bridges and Mrs. J. F. Dil-lard. Mrs. T. G. Marshall, from Cor- valus, was a guest. LAZY DAISY CLUB HAS POTLUCK LUNCH The Lazy Daisy club met at the home of Mrs. Leo Wilkerson on Winchester St., Thursday, Aug. 17 for the regular meeting and potluck luncheon. Frizes were won by Mrs. Robert Russell and the hostess, Mrs. Leo Wilkerson. Members and guests present were: Mrs, L. W. Pittam, Mrs. Wayne Overbeck, Mrs. A. F. Mitchell, Mrs. M. C. S'mith, Mrs. Bert Brewer, Mrs. Vernon Bristow, . Mrs. Jim Britson, Mrs. Bill Weaver, Mrs. Robert Russell and Mrs. Monty Glover. Out of town guests of the club were Mrs. Nellie Mitchell, Miss June Mitchell and Mrs. Harry Golding. The next meeting of the club will be on Thursday, Sept. 7, at the home of Mrs. A. F. R. Mode, of Limp- qua, became the bride of David Richard Burgess oC Sutherlin at the First Christian church in Suther- lin at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, Aug. 20. The single ring ceremony was performed by Rev. Lloyd Whitford in the presence of more than a hundred friends and relative:,. The bride, given in marriage by her father, was beautiful in a bal lerina length gown of white net over taffeta, with a fingertip veil falling from a white satin bandeau trimmed with seed pearls. Her flower was a large single orchid topping a white Bible with cas cade of white salin ribbon. She also carried handmade lace hand kerchief carried by the bride groom's grandmother at her wed ding. The only attendant was the ma tron of honor, Mrs. William Philip DISABLED AMERICAN VETERANS TO PICNIC All disabled American veterans are cordially invited lo the organ ization's picnic and district meet ing at Umpqua park on Sundav, Sept. 3, starling al 10 a.m. Both the district and department com manders will be present. Fried chicken will be served for dinner. Those attending are asked to bring their own table service. It has also been announced that prizes will be given away by the DAV chapter to the person getting the most new members for 1950-51. The prizes are; first, salmon pole; second, salmon reel; third, salmon spinner. The grand prize will be an outboard motor for the person getting 25 or more new members. Mrs. Shanklin and Mrs. Landis served delicious refreshments dur ing the social hour. i n Ki Wedding Is Event Of Aug. 20 and Mrs. David Richard Burgess Scallon, of Umpqua, who wore a ballerina length dress of pple blue net over taffeta and matching bandeau in her hair, and carried a nosegay of salmon gladioli. Preceding the ceremony the Misses Carol and Dorothy Bringle sang "Because" and "1 Love You Truly" accompanied by Miss June Young of Suthei'lin. Miss Helen Lansing, of Umpqua played inci dental music before .the ceremony and also played the wedding marches. Mr. William Pemberton, of Los Angeles, step-father of the groom, acted as best man. William Ellison, brother of the bride and Jack Cul ver all of Sutherlin were ushers. Miss Dixie Willis had charge of the guest book. After the ceremony a reception was held in the church parlors with Mrs. V. S. Westenhouse serv ing the punch, and Mrs. Howard Muupin assisted by Mrs. M. H. Gildersleeve serving the cake. The couple left immediately for a weeks honeymoon after which R. A. AND E. CLUB MEETS AT HOFFMEISTER HOME ON WEDNESDAY Mrs. T. The bride was graduated from Roseburg senior high school and is a past Honored Queen of the Oakland-Sutherlin Bethel of Job'i Daughters. She is employed in the offices of the Oregon Turkey Grow ers in Roseburg. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. William Pemberton of Los Angeles. He was graduated from Montebello high school in '1947 and has since made his home in Sulh erlin.
