Mits Taylor Homo Miss Cara Lee Taylor has returned to Rose burg after spending several days in Portland visiting friends and at tending to business matters. While in Portland she was entertained at a palette party with other art students who spent the afternoon sketching Miss Lee will return to Portland this fall to enter Cascade college as an art major. Patrick and the former's daughter, Mrs. Ethel Turner, uf Roseburg drove to Medford Tues day to attend the funeral of Mr. Patrick's brother, Richard Patrick, 63, of Eureka, Calif. The latter was a retired Southern Pacific en gineer and formerly resided in Roseburg- Survivors include the widow, two daughters, three broth ers and a sister. School Term Opening Dated At Canyonville Canyonville public schools will open on Sept. 5, Supterintendent Omer J. Monger announced. The same bus schedule as last year will be used with school start ing at 9 a. m. Birth certificates and health cer tificates are required of all stu dents entering the first grade. They must have passed their sixth birthday on or before Nov. IS to be eligible. Physical examinations, required of students entering the first or ninth grades, will be held at the grade school annex Tuesday. Aug. 29, from 9 a. m. to noon. Pre-school registration for high school students will be held from 9 a. m. to noon Tuesday, Aug. 29. Booth, 63, who died Saturday at her home in Azalea, were held at Glendale Tuesday. She had lived in Azalea for 36 years and was born in Kirtland, Ohio. Survivors are her husband, Glenn, a son, Glenn, Jr, and six brothers. Canyonville Students Take Physicals Tuesday Physical examinations for Can yonville students entering the first and ninth grades will be held at the Canyonville school Aug. 9 be tween 9 a.m. and noon. The exam ination is required by law. If taken at this time there will be no ex pense to the students. Beginners must be six years of age by Nov- 15 in order to start school this fall. All students in the 9th, 10th 11th and 12th grades are requested to come to the Canyonville school on Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. until noon to register, and select their subjects. School will open September 5 at 9 a.m. Tito Assured Of Allied Help If Russia Attacks TRIESTE (JP Ten thousand British and American troops are ready here if Communism's next armed blow falls on neighboring Yugoslavia. Garrisoning this allied guarded free territory on the Yugoslav-Italian border, they are "combat ready" in training and equip ment. But they sit on a spot too tight to noid and Backed by an i Italian army probably still too I weak to help j Their chief bulwark is the op-i tnion neia oy American military observers here and in Rome that the Yugoslav Army would be a tough nut for other Communist states to crack. Probably no one outside the Kremlin knows if such an invasion blow is scheduled for Yugoslav Marshal Tito's tough little anti Stalin Communist state. But if such a Red move should come, most observers think the Anglo-American forces here would be reinforced quickly and ordered into the fight. U. S. action in Korea is an example. Well-qualified opinion here holds that Tito's troops are equal to or better than any one or two the surrounding Soviet satellite powers could muster for an attack. But hit by them all Hungary. Romania, Bulgaria, Albania a n d by strong Soviet support, Yugo slavia would need help. Three Suits For Money Are Filed The Umpqua Building Supply Co. has filed a two-cause complaint asking $1410.12 judgment against Marvin and Jane Doe Judy. The first cause is for $1,241.41 plus, $112.70 interest, for merchan dise allegedly delivered to the defendants. The second cause was for $35.41, plus $20.60, also alleg edly remaining due on merchan dise delivered. Representing the Umpqua Build ing Supply Co. as plaintiffs were Frank L. Taylor, Lloyd Richard son and Elmer C. Wheaton. Jack J. Anderson has filed suit for $242.78 against Al Kepiro and Kicnara wyoerg lor latwr per formed. According to the com plaint, the plaintiff drove a trac tor for the defendants from June 15 to Aug. 2 for which he allegedly was not fully paid. Keith E. Carter has filed suit for $242.45 damages against James R. Gascon. The complaint charge that the defendant was guilty of negligence in making a turn on the wrong side of the road which allegedly resulted in a collision between the cars of the plaintiff and defendant. The accident re portedly took place on the Rifle Range road July 16. Funeral Services Set For Carl E. Butler Funeral services for Carl Eugene Butler, 27, who was fatally injured Aug. 22 in a logging accident near Yoncalla, will be held in The Chapel of The Roses. Roseburg Funeral I home, Friday, Aug. 25, at 2 p. m., with Missionary Worker Miss Ber- nice Oser, officiating. He was born July 4, 1923, in Hox ie, Arkansas and came to Rose burg three years ago to make his home. He was a 'cat' driver for a yarding firm and i veteran of I World War II. ! Surviving are his wife, Donna j Marie; three daughters, Carta, Sharon and Dianna. all of Rose burg; his mother, Mrs. Pearl Smith. 1st. Louis. Mr.: a brother. Earl Butler, Clayton, Missouri; four sis ters, Mrs. Vivian O'Brien, Mrs Eva Richey, Mrs. Blanche Colson and Mrs. Audrian Rush, all of Clayton, Mo. Channel Balks Youth In Eastward Swim , DOVER, England (.T, Philip Mickman, plucky, 19-year-old Eng lish school boy, came within an ace today of swimming the English channel the hard way from Eng land to France. For three hours he battled mountainous seas 500 yards off the French cost in a vain attempt to reach land. Then his trainers hauled him exhausted into the ac companying rowboat. SPRAYING DELAYED Roseburg's plan to spray the city for mosquitoes is being delayed somewhat by the weather, City Recorder W. A. Gilchrist reported.
