The Chiefs were scheduled to play a game with the Grants Pass team also but according to Sargent, it will be forfeited. With the season at a virtual end .the first four teai..s are look ing forward to the Shaughnessy playoffs scheduled to start Aug. 27. Manager Sargent reported that the date will be changed if Cen tral Point is unable to play the final make-up game with the Chiefs. In this case the play-offs will be postponed until Sept. 3. Southern Oregon baseball league Secretary J. Q. Adams has an nounced that the machinery for choosing outstanding players and teams has already begun to move. A trophy for the best batter will be awarded to the batter with the highest batting average who has been at bat at least 30 times. An other trophy will be given to the pitcher with the best record in wins, who has pitched the great est number of games. Finally an individual trophy will be given for the most valuable player as deter mined by votes from sportswriters and team managers. Redding Browns Rap Silver Sox By The Associated Press The Browns of Redding de- Ear ted from Reno in a slightly lack and blue condition today. The Silver Sox decisioned the Far West league leaders 9 to 7 last night to sweep the three gtme series. The' victory elevated the Sox to third place but they are still 13' i games behind Redding. A three run foray in the eighth gave the Nevadans their win and Bill Seward his 15th. Second place Klamath Falls gained a game on Redding bv defeating Pittsburg 6 to 5 on a gift run in the ninth. Gordy Brunswick of the Gems walked, took second on a wild pitch, third on an error and scored on a fielder's choice. The game was put under pro test by Diamond Manager Vince Di Maggio in the ninth. He called time and the umpires ruled other wise. Willie Enos of the Diamonds connected for his 27th homer. Just to make sure nobody for gets them, the cellar dwelling Wil lows Cardinals erupted with a 17 to 3 win over Eugene. The Cards riddled five Lark hurlers for 13 safeties. After he allowed one hit in th first, Medford hurler Jack Lloyd retired 15 Marysville batters in a row while posting an 11 to 4 tri umph. Schemer's Bottlers nabbed a' berth j in the district playoff series at Drain to be played Monday, Aug. 1 21. District Softball Commissioner Smith of Cottage Grove announced yesterday lhat four teams will vie in the playoffs, Roseburg, Cottage Grove, Springfield and Coos Bay. According to Smith, the Rose burg and Cottage Grove teams will play the first game starting at 7:30 p. m., and Springfield and Coos Bay will face each other in the second. The winners of these two games will make a decision as to when the final game will be played between them. The commissioner has chosen the Drain field since it is neutral and a strange field to all teams. The Bottlers have scheduled a game for 2:30 p. m. Sunday Willi the strong Sutherlin team. 'Fair To Good' Fish Forecast PORTLAND (.) "Fair to good" was the dominant note in the weekend fishing bulletin of the Oregon Game commission issued today. The report includes: COASTAL SECTIONS: Blueback fishing continues good on many of the coastal stream. A majority of the fish are being taken in tidewater. The best reports have come from the Necanicum, Ne halem, Nestucca, Alsea, Siletz, and the Umpqua rivers. The upper reaches of Winchester bay have also produced good Blueback fish ing, upstream trout fishing is only fair. Salmon fishing on Winchester bay is fair to good. Good salmon catches are being made in the lower Rogue. Offshore salmon fish ing has been good all along the coast. A few salmon have been taken in Yaquina bay and Nehalem bay. Lingcod, tomcod and perch fishing continues good in the Days. Perch, bass, bluegill and catfish catches are good in all the central coastal lakes. Bass are being taken on flies in Loon and Siltcoos lakes. SOUTHERN OREGON: Upper Umpqua Trout angling is good, the South Umpqua in the vicinity of Days Creek being best. Steelhead fishing is fair. Rogue River The tributaries and upper reaches of the Rogue are producing the most limit catches. A few summer stealhead are being taken. Damond Lake A few large fish have been taken. In general, angl ing is only fair.
