GENUINE Tire Shortage Easing Probable, Agent Points Out Unless the Korean war develops into a worldwide conflict, the- cur rent shortage of tires is expected to level off within a few month, H. B. Dalrymple, B. F. Goodrich tire representative, told Kiwanis club members Tuesday noon. Dalrymple gave a brief talk and then showed motion pictures ut his company's newly developed tubeless, puncture-proof tires. Three factors have contributed to the tire shortage, he said. First, the Korean war hit suddenly, iust before the tire sales reached Its peak. He explained that tire dis tribution comes in a cycle, at a low ebb in the winter months, gradually climbing in the spring to a peak in July, then again tapering off toward fall. The war opened when the demand for tirs on the local market was greatest. Second, he said, the war scare has caused stepped up buying by the public, which has feared a wartime shortage, and third, be cause of summer vacations, pro duction is below normal. There is no shortage of raw material for making tires, he said. Unless the United States shipping lanes from the East Indies should suddenly be cut off by a sea war, Dlcntv of tree rubber is available. Some synthetic rubber factories are being put back into produc tion, but this takes two to three months' time, he said. Also there is no shortage in cotton, rayon and other materials that go into the making of tires. The cost of tires, however i expected to rise. The price of crude rubber has risen two cents per day, the limit allowed by law. from 17 cents to 57 cents. While tree rubber is essential for truck tires, svnthetic rubber is practi cally as good as tree rubber for automobile ures, ne said. The motion pictures shown by Dalrymple told the process of manufacture and explained the principal which is used in pro ducing tubeless, puncture-proof tires, the latest innovation on the tire market. Missing Girt Found In Woods, Guarded By Dogs FREEPORT, 111. .1 Two mongrel dogs guarded a little girl who fell asleep after becoming lost in the woods near her farm home last night. The child, Susan Sweely, 2, was found at 2 a.m. today by mem bers of a searching party of 500 who had hunted her in wooded areas and marsh lands for seven hours. Susan was found asleep on the grass at the top of a ravine less than a mile from the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Sweely.
