Society and Gluhi Four Initiated Into Tau Eta Eta Sorority By LOTUS KNICHT PORTER and BETTY ALLEN RECEPTION WELCOMES OILLARD PASTOR ANO FAMILY TUESDAY NIGHT A reception to welcome the new pastor and family, Rev. and Mrs. ' Frank Drew and two daughters, Ji'dith Kay and Laurabeth, was held at the Dillard church Tues day evening. A poltuck dinner was served in the church annex. The rooms were decorated with bowls of sweet peas and gladioli. Following the dinner hour an evening of visiting was enjoyed by about 15 families in the community. In charge of the affair were Mis. Gene Lesher and Mrs. E. 0. Nickerson. NEW IDEA CLUB HAS , PICNIC LUNCHEON AT CALKINS SUMMER HOME The New Idea club of Eden bower held a delightful picnic luncheon Wednesday at the sum mer home of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Calkins on the North Umpqua. cov . ers were placed for twelve mem bers and guests. The club will meet October 4 at a one o'clock luncheon at the home of Mrs. F. H. Appelhoff. GUILD SEWING GROUP TO MEET AT HUME HOME St. George's Guild Sewing group will meet at eight o'clock Wednes day evening at the home of Mrs. J. C. Hume on Blakeley street. All tyoe of sewing will be on hand and all members are urged to be present to assist with the work. JOLLY CIRCLE CLUB TO MEET WEDNESDAY Jollv Circle club will meet Wed nesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Peart f olden. Binnaay gins will be presented to Mrs. Gert rude Davis. All members are "urg ed to be present. y NAVY MOTHERS PICNIC TO BE HELD TONIGHT The Navy Mothers club will hold a picnic at Umpqua park tonight, July 31. Members, past members and invited guests are asked to attend. Those attending are asked to bring their table service. PINK AND BLUE SHOWER HONORS MRS. ABRAHAM Mrs. Donald Abraham was hos tesses at a pink and blue shower honoring Mrs. Lester Hixson Wed nesday at Elkton. The affair was held at the home of Mrs. Claud Haines. Gifts were opened and vis iting enjoyed. Later the hostess served refreshments to the 20 guests. BENEFIT CARD PARTY TO BE EVENT OF TONIGHT Pythian Sisters will sponsor a benefit card party at eight o'clcok tonight, July 31, at the K. of P. hall. Canasta will be taught for beginners. The public is invited. Ice-tea will be served during the . card play. KITCHEN SHOWER HONORS ELKTON RESIDENT AT CHURCH OF CHRIST The Misses Lorna Alldridge and Lois Stweart were co-hostesses at a kitchen shower honoring Mrs. Robert Slovensky at the Church of Christ at Elkton Monday after noon. Games were enjoyed and gifts owned. Two wedding cakes, i baked by Mrs. Martin Suloff and i Mrs. Ray Monner, were served to the 40 in attendance. PICNIC HONORS MEDFORD VISITOR Mr. and Mrs. Norman Compton held a picnic recently honoring Mrs. Compton's sister, Mrs. Melvin Willoughby of Medford, who is vis iting relatives at Elkton. Iced Coffee Is Cooling Drink By GAYNOR MADDOX NEA Staff Writer There's no pleasanter ending to a warm-weather supper than a tall, tinkling glass filled to the brim with frosty iced coffee. Remember, however, that perfect iced coffee starts with good, hot coffee. Try either one of these easy-to-follow methods: Pro-Cooled Method 1. Make coffee regular strength one standard coffee measure (or Its equivalent, two level measur ing tablespoonfuls) of coffee to each three-quarters of a measur ing cup of freshly drawn water. 2. Cool in a non-metallic con tainer for not more than three hours, or, if the container ia tightly covered, chill in refrigera tor. 3. Serve in tall glasses with ice, adding simple syrup or sugar and cream to taste. Quick Method 1. Make coffee double strength, by using half the amount of water to the usual amount of coffee. 2. Pour hot over ice cubes in tall glasses. The extra strong cof fee allows for the dilution caused by the melting of the ice. 3. Serve with cream and simple syrup or sugar to taste. You'll find that simple syrup makes the ideal sweetening for iced coffee. Just boil equal quan tities of sugar and water for about (Picture by Frederickaon Photo Lab.) ' Tau Eta Eta held initiation of four new members Wednesday, July 19 at the home of Mrs. Elmer Hampton, mother of Mrs. Earl Wiley Jr. Preside it Georgia Daw presided during the ceremony. Polly Ann Hecathorn pinned cor sages on Mrs. Marcy Johnson, Mrs. Jeanine Borthwick, M r s. Morene Hall and Mrs. Georgia Baker. Following initiation secret sister names were drawn and the char ter presented to the sority mem bers. Refreshments, carrying out the sorority colors of green and white were served by Mrs. Donna Meredith and Mrs. Wiley Jr. I Attending were the Mesdames Donna Meredith, Mildred Bailey, I Jackey Johnson, Polly Hecathorn, cyntnia Keen, wia Kawaon, ueor : gia Daw, Elva Tennison, Marcy Johnson, Georgia Baker, Jeanine Borthwick, Morene Hall and the 'hostess, Mrs. Wiley. 10 minutos, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. The syrup can be made in small or large quantities; it keeps indefinitely when stored in the refrigerator. Like coffee flavor in dessert? Then try this de luxe mousse. Coffee Mium (8 servings) One-half cup double - strength coffee, 1-3 cup sugar, .2 egg whites, stiffly beaten, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 2 cups heavy cream. Heat sugar and coffee togetcr, stirring until sugar dissolves. Boil to 238 degrees r . or until syrup spins a thread. Add syrup slowly to egg whites, beating constantly ui.til mixture is cool; add vanilla; chill. Whip cream until it just holds shape; fold into chilled egg white mixture. Pour into 2 empty No. 2 cans, filling almost full. Cover tops with several thicknesses of waxed paper or aluminum foil. Secure with elastic bands. Pack molds in tub' or bucket with equal parts of chopped ice and ice cream salt. Let stand 3 hours, pouring off water and add ing more salt or ice as needed. Unpack carefully. All members are urged to be present. 4-H CLUB SEES FRUIT DEMONSTRATION AT CLUB MEETING TUESDAY Processing of fruit was the de monstration given by Charlotte Sand Tuesday evening at the home of Margie Hanson for 4-H club members of the Elgarose district. Donna biindberg was in charge of the meeting. Mrs. Zelma Sand, local leader. brought canned fruit to the meet ing and each member judged the jars, ine club pledge and songs ionowea. During the social hour refresh ments were served to Donna Sund berg, Charlotte, Joe, Glen and Ste vie Sand, Sally Brown, Dixie Wool en, Margie Hanson, Mrs. Sand, Mrs. Lee Brown, Vern Woolen. Andrew Hanson, Glen and Donald Hanson. The next meeting will be held the evening of August 1 at the hom of Mrs. Sand. Hopkins Miss Donna Sutton, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. J. C. Sutton of Roseburg, became the bride of James E. Hopkins, Friday, Juno 30th, at the home of the bride. The double ring ceremony was read by Ihe Rev. E. Clark Robb before a back ground if ferns and summer flowers in the presence of 25 relatives and close friends. Miss Jacquie Sutton, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She selected a light pink suit and white accessories. Robert Floch of Roseburg attended the bridegroom as best man. The. weddinp music was played by Miss Norma Cox who also ac companied Miss Carla Lee Taylor when she sans "Always" and "Bo cause.' At the reception which followed, the wedding cake, topped by a min iature bride and groom, was first cut by the newlyweds and then served by Mrs. Verna Taylor.
