Harris of Rose burg announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Katie, to Albert F, Laurie Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Laurie Sr., also of Roseburg. The wedding will be an event of Sept. I. Miss Harris has been employed for the past two years at Church's Drug store. Mr. Laurie, a graduate of Oregon State college, is employed in Portland at Rovangs. They will make their home in Portland. MR. AND MRS. WATSON CELEBRATE WEDDING ANNIVERSARY TUESDAY Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Watson, pro minent Roseburg residents for ihc last 42 years, celebrated their fifty seventh wedding anniversary quiet ly at their home Tuesday, July 25. Neighbors ana close lrienas cau- ed to congratulate them, Mr. and Mrs. Watson were mar ried fifty-seven years ago in Ohio. On account of the illness of the latter, the celebration Tuesday was a quiet affair. The Watsons have a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Minturn, well-known Roseburg pianist and teacher, and two sons, Floyd B. READ JULY 1 AT CHURCH OF CHRIST IN SUTHERLIN An ivy covered lattice and bas kcts of snapdragons and gladioli formed the background for the wed ding of Miss Betty Jean Young man and David Wayne Garman at the Church of Christ in Sutherlin Saturday evening, July 1 at 8 o' clock. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Youngman of Sutherlin and the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Garman of Cottage Grove. The ceremony was read by the Rev. F. Sherwood Smith with a large group of relatives and friends of the couple attending. The bride wore a gown of ballerina-length white taffeta with a net yoke. Her fingertip veil was held in place by a crown of white flowers and was edged with lace. She carried a nosegay of white sweet peas and gardenias. Maid of honor was Miss Esther Youngman, who wore a ballerina- length blue taffeta gown trimmed with white neet. She carried a nose gay of pastel colored sweet peas. Little Lanez Kay Van Duscn, flow er girl wore a white dress. Gary Lealhers was best man and Charles Fielding and Gary Gar man were ushers. Candle-lighters were Miss Aloma Garman and Miss Barbara Lowe. Miss Evelyn Garman, organist. played "I Love Thee." "Oh Pro mise me,' and the traditional wed ding marches. A reception followed in the church, with Miss I'hyilis Garman cutting the cake and Mrs. Men dell serving. Miss Wanda Stitt was at the punch bowl with Miss Mary Jo Parsons and Miss Lois Per kins assisting. Miss Eevolyn Gar man was in charge of the gift and Mrs. W. H. Mendell, the guest book. Mr. Garman resided in Sutherlin with his parents for several years before moving to Cottage Grove. Engagement Told Mr. and Mrs. Vollie Lewis of Roseburg announce the e n g a g e ment of their daughter, Olive to Ray A. Strong, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley R. Strong of Grand view. Washington. Miss Lewis was graduated from Roseburg senior high school in 1945 and studied at the University of Oregon at Eugene for two years, majoring in English education.. She was employed as secretary of the First Methodist church of Rose burg for a year and during the fiast winter studied at Scarritt Col pge in Nashville, Tenn. Mr. Strong was graduated from Grandview nigh school at Graftal- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley L. Kid der, were interned by the Japan ese in the Philippines. Robert P. Kidder is recreational aide at the Veterans hospital in Roseburg and with his wife and their three children, reside on Chadwick street. Following service with the Am erlcan Occupational forces in Ger many, Capt. Jack Kidder has been stationed in Santa Barbara. With his family he will leave Saturday for Fort Benning, Ga. DR. AND MRS. Miss Rutherford is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rutherford of Laguna Beach Calif., and Mr. Sharpe is the son of Mrs. Emile Sharpe of Eugene September 3, 1950 has been set as the wedding date. view, Wash, in 1943. He has at tended Washington State college at Pullman, Wash, and recently re ceived a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics from Central Washington college at Ellensburg, Wash. He is a member of Kappa Delta Pi. Both Miss Lewis and Mr. Strong are now studying a' Central Wash ington College ot Education at Kllenshiirg, where Mr. Strong is completing work for a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and a five year secondary certificate.
