merce and Industries association
of New York City has urged Con
gress to put aside the tl ,010.000,
000 excise tax-cutting bill "until
the world situation is clarified."
Donald E. Chafey, speaking for
the organization which he said rep
resents 4,000 New York City busi
nesses of all types, told the Senate
Finance committee:
"Although the association con
sistently lias advocated elimina
tion or reduction of excise taxes,
it realizes that if full-scale war
should break out in Korea or other
troubled areas, an increase in taxes
will be required."
