Ralph Hailstone of Spokane, a businessman, reported the finding of large bones and a tusk "seven or eight feet long" near Warden in Grant county. Hailstone find was reported to Freeman, head of the science de partment at the college, who in dicated he would help explore the new una. Freeman said the bones found near Davenport came from a spe cies (a mammoth) which became extinct from 15,000 to 20,000 years ago. They are not the first to be found in this area. A mammoth skeleton found a number of years ago in a Latah county swamp is now on display in New York at the Museum of Natural History.
