Dillard Scouts Receive Awards The rillard Cub Scouts of pack 136 were joined in their last meet ing of the summer bv the Bnv Scouts of troup 136, for the pre sentation of special awards, pins and badges Monday night, June 19. Jit the Dillard school. Following the opening of t h e meeting with the flag salute, Cub master Russell Bryce requested Rev. W. W. Apnlevard to make few remarkd. Rev. Appleyard of fered his resignation from his posi tion in both clubs, expressing bis pleasure in working with the boys ami saying ne regretted to leave this community for his new pastor ate in Nehalem. One feature of the entertainment was the graduation exercises of Cub Scout Warren Heinbach from den 1 of pack 136. He was intro duced to the Scoutmaster,. Allan McLennan, who accpeted him into the troup. Den chief, Richard Anderson was presented a special Scout cord for his regular attendance and help in den 1. Gregory Wight, Rus sell Bryce and David Glen receiv ed their Wolf badges which were pinned on them bv their mothers. An invitation was read from the Rose pack to attend at Roseburg Jr. High school June 30 for a special program. Scout leader McLennan than presented his boys for award. Tenderfoot pins were given Michel Anderson, Kenneth Mahoney, Dean Nelson, Bill Slack and Floyd Slack; second class pins were awarded Richard Ander son, Frankie Collins and Dan Nel son. A letter from Jimmy Whipple dated June 20 and mailed from SDokane. Wash., relates the follow ing account leading to their de parture: "Valley Forge troop 18 has been very busy the last two days. We set our tents Monday evening at Eugene. One hundred sixty-eight boys camped there. All were very eager to get underway. "Tuesday morning we ate break fast and afterwards we filled the time playing catch with a football, brought by Glenn Scofield. Later on Larry Henninger drilled our squad on the fundamental drills of march ing. It showed our weak points we had to practice. "We broke camp early and had our medical exams. About five we began plans to march into town to board the train. About 350 parents arrived to see us off and when we got underway there was an initia tion ceremony to induct our porter, Jim Brown, into the scouts. "Although most of us are tired from this start of the trip, we are all having loads of fun and ex pecting lots more." ' Romance Rumor Links Princess Margaret, Scot LONDON (."P London gos sips are saying that Princess Mar garet wants to marry the 36-year-old Earl of Dalkeith. Buckingham palace, which frowns on such talk, refuses to discuss it. The rumors have it that the engagement of Princess E 1 i a belh's younger sister will be an nounced after Margaret's 2 0th birthday, Aug. 21. The earl himself, a handsome, red-haired Scotsman who has been one of Margaret's most devoted escorts, snorted impatiently and called the rumors "foolish." "The number of times I have escorted the princess is i r r e 1 event," the earl said. The earl, son of the Duke of Buccleuch, was Margaret's escort last week when the royal family rode to the royal Ascot race meet ing in an open carriage. He was a guest at the royal house party at Windsor during scot week. Margaret and the earl have been friends since childhood. Their as sociation has a family link in the fact that Margaret's aunt, the Duchess of Gloucester, is a sister of the Earl's father, and thus is the Earl's aunt too. The young s i x-foot-tall Earl keeps busy managing his father's vast estates, which he some day will inherit.
