4 t Threats May Force Foe Of Union To Change Residence i CANTON, III., June 23 -P-Lloyd H. Sidener said Thursday that his family has been so fre quently threatened because of his fight with the United Mine Work ers union that they plan to seek refuge in Florida. The family will not return to Canton, the miner said, "until there's a court order prohibiting those guys from making those silly telephone calls and threats." Sidener w as president of the mine union local until he obeved i fed eral court order and went back to his job during the strike last win ter. At that time, John I. Lewis, the union's national president also had '. publicly ordered the men back to work, but Sidener said it was ac companied by another secret order to the contrary. After the strike ended on March 5, Sidener was ousted from the local presidency and the union fined him $50,000. He said that action was imposed as a penalty because he attempted to start a back-to-work movement among his fellow miners. Sidener, a $175-a-week shovel op erator at the Buckheart mine, has been on leave of absence from his job since June 1, because, he said, of telephoned threats against his life. He had worked only two davs since the union abated the $50,000 fine and restored him to member ship and the job. He said his wife is suffering a "nervous condition" as a result of the continued threats. Sidener did not say when the family will leave here or where they will live in Florida. He said, however, he is not quit ting his job at the mine here, add ing that $175-a-week jobs "are hard to find." Frl., June 23, 1950 Th Newi-IUvitw, koMburg, Or. .. 3 Ten-Year Ashland Resident Jailed As Ohio Fugitive ASHLAND, June 23 UP) A cafe operator was held here today as a 1939 escapee from the Mans field, O., state reformatory. Sheriff Howard Gault identified him as Roy Harrison, known here for 10 years as Carl. Moore. Gault said that Harrison was fin gerprinted at Medford last month when arrested on a charge of as sault with a dangerous weapon. He was released on bail, but his fing erprints were circulated to police departments. Ohio authorities, he said, identified him as a man who had escaped at Manfield after serv ing eight months o a one-to-lS-year burglary term. Ohio authorities are expected here in a few days.
