Summer school courses or grade, junior high and senior hish school students will be held at the junior high school building be ginning Monday, June 12, it was announced today by the superin tendent's office, Roseburg school district 4. The courses will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Monday through fnday for a period of six weeks. tlementary youngsters may take courses to lift a "conditional" at a cost of $20 for the first subject and $10 for each additional sub ject. Junior and senior high stu dents may take one new subject or two makeup subjects. The cost is $20 for one subject or $30 for two. Courses are offered for those high school students who need ad ditional credits in order to meet their grade level or requirements and for those who have failed in some of their work. New Business Started The Canyonvilie Oil Co., located on the north side of the city, is one of Canyonville's newer businesses, having opened a few weeks ago. Harry Hensley is the owner and manager. Hensley is an indeoendent dealer handling gas, butane, oil and tires He plans to have faculties soon to be able to grease cars. Hensley came to Oregon from Chicago last November. Central and State Streets Phone 2983 Canyonvilie Voters Dislike Parking Meters A special council meeting was called in Canyonvilie last week to discuss parking meters for the city. Several days previous to the meet ing, petitions were in various stores for the purpose of getting opinions for and against the me ters. The petitions were presented to the mayor and council at the meeting and it was learned there were many more against than for them. I. N. Gray reported on his recent meeting with the Oregon State Highway commission in Portland, slating that the highway engineer would be in Canyonvilie soon to consult the city council in regards to the new highway through the city. Night Cop Balks At Onerous Shift, Raps Suspension JAMESBURG, N. J. (m The police chief who didn't like the midnight to morning trick gave his side of the story: His side: "A raw deal." Chief Harry h. Hubbs, who is half of this community's two-man Eolice force, was suspended by the orough council for refusing t o work the hours between midnight and 5 a.m. The borough council accused him of misconduct and insubordina tion. Mayor Michael Seminars said Hubbs refused to answer telephone calls during the night hours, trans ferring them instead to the may or's home. Hubbs, who has announced him self as a Republican candidate for Middlesex county sheriff, was sus pended by a four-to-two vote of the borough council four demo crats for it and two Republicans opposed. Hubbs said he was suspended "because of political pressure by the Democrats." He said he could not work the wee hours because of a nervous disorder.
