Employee Ouster On Loyalty Doubt To Be Aired WASHINGTON - The su preme court has agreed to rule on whether the federal government may fire any employee if there is "rasonable doubt" as to the work er's loyalty. The case was taken to the tri bunal by Miss Dorothy Bailey, 39, who was fired from an $8.000-a-year government job here on dis loyalty grounds. The argument on the case will be heard next October. Miss Bailey appealed to the high Afcv. COMFORT ECONOMY tribunal from a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals here. The appeals court said that under the government's loyalty program the President "may remove trom gov ernment service any person of whose loyalty be is not completely convinced." Miss Bailey was accused of membership in the Communist par ty, but she denied this. The supreme court has also agreed to rule on constitutionality of the loyalty program itself. The issue was raised in appeals filed by the joint Anti-Fascist Refugee committee and the National Coun cil of American-Soviet Friendship, Inc. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Palmer of San Francisco visited at the Walter Coats home Friday forenoon. They visited Mr. Coats at Winston as he was at work. They also stopped at the Wayne Breitenbucher home as Mr. Palmer wanted to see tho house where he lived many years ago. The Breitenbucher place was originally the old donation land claim of Thomas Coats, erandfa ther of Mr. Palmer. Coats and Palmer, who are cousins, used to Robeson Accuses Roqqe Of Being Tito's Hireling LONDON, June tUP Ameri can singer Paul Robeson has at tacked O. John Rogge, former U.S. assistant attorney general, as a paid lobbyist for Marshal Tito's Yugoslavia. Rogge confirmed he held such a job, and defended his activities for the tominlorm out cast. The clash occurred after Rogge, a vice president of the world peace committee, offered a resolution to the committee's executive commit tee here asking that the Yugoslav peace committee be readmitted. It was expelled last year, 13 months after Tito broke with Mos cow. The committee rejected the res olution in a stormy session. After the meeting both Rogge and Robe son addressed a news conference. "I'm a registered lobbyist for Yugoslavia and for a number of organizations," Rogge said. "I m a lawyer, and my firm represents a number of clients." Rogge has offices in New York. He was an assistant attorney gen eral from 1943 to 1946. He has visit ed most of the Communist-dom- Too Many Bills, City To Disincorporate DRAPERVILLE, Ore., (.It This Linn county community de cided to taste city ways. The taste was bitter. So Draperville, which voted only five months ago to incorporate, now is going to disincorporate. The deciding vote was 36 to 26. Draperville found there were just too many bills. Right now, the com munity can't escape being a city, because there is no money to pay off the remaining bills. Mayor Fred Potter said money is expected soon from the State Liquor commission. Objects Of Fear Listed Hoyt called the present day an "era of fear" and told the grad uating class they need to be afraid of these things: 1. The scientific death devices man has put together, 2. A shooting war. 3. Collapse of the two-party sys tem in the United States. 4. Ignorance of the Russian communists. S. Ignorance on the part of some of "our own leaders." And he prescribed for those fears an antidote faith. He warned that the faith he advocates must be a "moving and dynamic faith which admits the necessity for action." He cautioned the students they must have a faith which will force them to "substitute a war to be fought with brains instead of a war of bombs, x x x a war of phrases instead of proximity fuses. And the future he called the Tax Bill Far Short Of Meeting Truman's Demands WASHINGTON. UPi The house ways and means committee still is about $500,000,000 short of meeting President Truman s d e mand for a new revenue to offset proposed excise and other tax cuts. A report prepared by the com mittee's staff of specialists d i s- closed that the tax bill writers have found new sources of revenue estimated to bring in about $695 000.000 a year. mis laus Dy tar 10 onset esti mated reductions of $1,243,000,000 already approved by the commit tee. Committee members for the most part agree that corporation taxes must be raised if enough re venue is to be brought in to offset all the reductions thai have been approved. While some Democrats reported ly favor higher corporation taxes, it appeared uncertain whether there are enough of them to con trol the committee. Republican committee members oppose any increase in corpor ation levies. Some favor a cut. The committee s specialists esti mated revenue gains of $595.000.. 000 from changes in present tax laws, plus $100,000,000 in individual income taxes. Rape-Slaying Draws Triple Prison Terms , SAN FRANCISCO, June &-M Lyle Buswell. 33, an air force ser geant, Monday vas sentenced to three life terms in prison. He was convicted June 1 of the rape-slaying cf Mrs. Fairy Decker, 44, sergeant in the women's air force. Sgt. Decker's body was found March 25 near the women's bar racks at Hamilton field. most brilliant in history. But to be realized, Hoyt said, it must be developed and protected by an in formed nation of individuals. He charged the graduating seniors with that responsibility. Eddie Cantor Off For Israel On New Mission NEW YORK, June 6. W Eddie Cantor says he has come to "turning point" in his career, and from now on will devote host of his "working and leisure time" to the United Jewish appeal. The entertainer, a national cam- paign chairman of the UJA, made the statement as he embarked on the liner Queen Elizabeth for his first trip to Israel.
