FALL ACTIVITIES OUTLINED FOR HOME EXTENSION UNIT AT MEETING WEDNESDAY The Winston Home Extension unit held its last meeting of the summer season Wednesday, May 26, at the community hall on Grape avenue and an outdoor potluck luncheon was enjoyed at the noon hour. Mrs. Corinne MacTaggart was in charge of the program and presented a demonstration of how to mix cosmetics in the home at money-saving cost to homemakers. After the demonstration several members of the unit gave reports on the Homemakers' Festival which was held recently at the Methodist Church in Roseburg. Lat er games, under the direction of Mrs. Mary Lee Walker, were en joyed by members of the club. The first fall meeting will be . held in October. Many interesting ' topics are planned for the winter meetings, the president, Mrs. Dai sy Fox, announced. Among them will be "Advance Textile paint ing," K i t c n e n Arrangement "Home Made Handbags," "Home Entertaining" and "Furniture Ar rangement. "Cookies and Can dies" will be the topic for Decern' ber. Of interest to many was the announcement made by Mrs. Mac Taggart that special sewing les sons will be offered in Roseburg during tne winter months for any one interested. These lessons will feature short-cuts which will sim plify sewing for housewives. Classes will be arranged at a later date and it is planned that those who take these lessons will in turn present their findings to those with in the Winston unit who are unable to attend the Roseburg classes. All homemakers within the com munities of Winston and Dillard are invited to join the local home extension unit at their October meeting. RIDDLE BUSY BEE 4-H CLUB ENJOYS AFTERNOON OUTINO A weiner roast on the river at the Earl Smith ranch at Riddle brought activities of the Riddle Busy Bee 4-H club to a conclusion until the fall months. The members have been working since January on homemaking one. Mrs. Roy Fenton and Mrs. L. Dawson were guests. GUILD SEWING GROUP TO MEET WEDNESDAY The sewing group of St. George's Episcopal Guild will meet at eight o'clock Wednesday evening, June 7, at the home of Mrs. Will H. Ger retsen on Blakeley street to sew for the bazaar. All types of sewing will be done and members are urged to be present to assist with the work. STITCH BY STITCH 4-H CLUB HOLDS MEETING The Stitch by Stitch 4-H Sewing club held their meeting at the home of Carmen Cooper Friday afternoon. Games and visiting were enjoyed. Loletta Buell and Margie Hanson led songs and yells. Mrs. Pat Lucas served refresh ments to Louise Gilliam, Judy Mc- Broom, Loletta Buell, Sally Brown, Margie Hanson, Dixie Wooten, Car men Cooper, Mrs. Lee Brown, Mrs. Ruth Wooten and Mrs. Hanson. DISTRICT AUXILIARY PRESIDENT ATTENDS IDDLE LEGION MEETING Mrs. Mabel Hughes of Coquille, president of district 10 of the American Legion auxiliary, was a guest at the Canyonville American Legion auxiliary meeting Friday night at the community hall. Mrs. Hughes presented a five year merit pin to Mrs. Glen Ship- pen and one to nine-year-old Florette McGee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy McGee. Mrs. Mary Sageberd of Gardiner, grand mother of Florette. was present for the occasion. Birthdays for the month of May were observed during the evening Honored were Mrs. Mabel Hughes, Mrs. Ralph Goodall. Mrs. Glen Shippen and Mrs. Nettie Tracy. Refreshments were servea to tne members and guests and to the American Legion post members, who also met the same evening. NATIONAL PIANO AUDITION RESULTS PROVE SUCCESSFUL The National Piano auditions of the National Guild of Piano Teachers of America, were given at the Hemline piano school on May 25 and 26 by Dr. LeRoy Carl son, pianist and pedagog. There were 32 students presented in programs embracing the early and late classics, romantic and modern periods of music, plus musicianship phases required for elementary, intermediate and pre paratory classifications. national winners were those who played 10 to 20 memorized numbers in either classification They were Deborah Corkrum Vickie Bean, Barbara Gadway, Kathi Corkrum, Ralph Deal, Billy Kclley, Evangeline Chapman, jeanine inompson, juaun Bellows Sandralyn Williamson, Bruce Voeller, Lucinda Randall, Mary Margaret Cobb, Mary Elma Smith and bnary ferrault. the state winners included those who played seven to nine mem orized numbers: Claudette Mann ing, Bernie Young, Roland Wag ner, Nancy Stewart and Jimmy Wnittenburg. Playing two to six nombers for district winners were Sharon Jef- feris, Janet Corkrum, Carol Mann ing, Mary Lou Radford and jjorvere Crooch. Six young students after a short period of study were given their pledge certificates for one mem orized piece and musicianship phases. Marilyn Carol and Herald Kollett, Morris Kelley, Jerry Whittenburg and Susie Black were given their certifiiates. Mrs. Clyde Carstens, who is also the assistant at the Heinline school, was given her national col legiate certificate for a most pre tentious program of 11 numbers.
