This was the fourth of a series given by the Past Noble Grand club at the Hall home on U m p q u a street. Bridge and canasta were played with Leo Holgate and Mrs. Lochie Thompson winning high score: Frank Holgate and Mrs. Gula Crowell, low, for canasta. Vern Holgate and Mrs. Leona Slack scored high at bridge and Harry Barker and Ruth Manning, low. RIVERSDALE EXTENSION UNIT TO MEET IN FALL The Riversdale Home Extension unit met May 24 at 2 o'clock with Corinne McTaggert home exten sion leader as project leader. Topic discussed was "Care of the Skin". The unit decided to change the meeting day from Wednesday to the second Tuesday of the month. The first meeting of the next year to be on October 10. Visiting was followed by a busi ness meeting and some readings were given. The readings were "A Flea Fable" by Mrs. Blanche Degner: "Hullo" by Mrs. Vera Erbe: "Happiness" by Mrs. Min nie Melius and "The Death of a Douglas Fir" by Mrs. Hazel Ison. A potluck luncheon was planned to be held on Sunday, June 11 at one o'clock in the Tenmile Com munity Building. A special table will honor the men of the commu nity who are 70 years or older. Everyone of the community is in vited, and asked to bring pot luck food and table service. Plans were also discussed for a turkey suooer to be held Friday evening, June 23. This supper was originally planned to be a ham sup prr but has been changed to a tur key supper. More announcements win De made later. MISSIONARY COUNCIL SPENDS MEETING TIME AT MEND'NG, SEWING The Womens Missionary council ot the Assembly of God church, at Sutherlin met at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Hanson last week. Prayer was given by Mrs. Eulon Lyons, Mrs. Myrtle Bishop read the 91 Psalms. The evening was spent in mend ing clothes, making pot holders, crocheting, piecing quilts and quilting. ELGAROSE COMFORT CLUB TO MEET Elgarose Comfort club will meet Thursday at the home of Mrs. Conrad Lundeen at Mitherlin, at which time a miscellaneous shower will be given the retiring presi dent. Federal Reserve Board Post Filled By Truman WASHINGTON, May 27 -UP) President Truman today nominated Edward Lee Norton of Birming ham, Ala., to be a member of the f ederal Jtoserve board. Norton is an investment banker and radio station owner. The nomination is for a 14-year term. Federal Reserve board aides sail Norton, when approved by the Senate, wijl take the board post now held by Ernest G. Draper who wants to retire. Norton's appointment had been anticipated. The decision to pick him was reported to have been influenced by the work done in behalf of the Truman administra tion by Democratic Senators Hill and Sparkman of Alabama. ACCIDENT FATAL SALEM UP) An automobile collided with a logging truck on the Santiam highway 42 miles cast of here Friday and killed Leslie A. Allen. Detroit, Ore., a passehg- ccr in the automobile. Kearby Masters of Winston on Thursday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mc Cord and sons, David and Peter, of Dillard. Mr. and Mrs. David Hein, for merly of Madison, Wise, left for their home in North Hollywood on Wednesday morning after visiting with Mr. and Mrs. George Bacher. The two couples became friends during the war when Hein and Bacher were stationed in Lincoln, Nebr., with the U.S. Air Force. Later, Hein was transferred to the Portland Air base and from there he was sent to Santa Rosa. At the close of the war Mr. and Mrs. Hein moved from Wisconsin to Los Angeles, where Hein is employed with a western airline. Mrs. Hein sings with the Los Angeles chorus of light opera at the Hollywood Bowl.
