Missing Manhole , Covers Causing Aberdeen Worry ABERDEEN, () "Fleeing discs" heavy inch-thick cast iron manhole covers ar giving Aberdeen officials more anxiety than the flying type ever created. Disappearing at a .. rapid rate from city street during the oast few weeks, the elusive discs have proved to be triple threats. They not only leave behind yawning traps for unwary pedestrians but often reappear as rolling or flying instruments of destruction. The broken remains of three of the covers, apparently dropped some 80 feet, were found this week beneath the Sixth street bridge, which spans a crowded residen tial area. Street superintendent George Salmi said the three were not the first dropped from the structure. Other manhole covers have come hurtling down the long, steep Arnold street hill, also in a thickly populated residential area. Salmi reported, and one resident of that district stepped out of his base ment only seconds before a cir cular mass of metal-on-edge whip ped in via the wood chute. The city, which has already learned that the missing covers are expensive to replace, also has had to pay recently for a tire ruined by striking one of the open holes. Dillard TIGHT SQUEEZE OXON HILL, Md. P) Seven-year-old Robert S. Phillips Jr., was wedged so tightly in a post hole that when he finally was freed by his father and neighbors after an hour's digging, he left his pants behind. Young Robert was unhurt. The three-foot-deep hole had been dug for an ornamental lamp post. 77 BETTER ne EASIER CHEAPER Cardboard of0OSS IDEAL FOR HUNDREDS OF EXTERIOR USES .
