The annual Douglaa C o u a t y chapter, American Red Cross, membership meeting will be held in the chapter rooms at the arm ory June 12 at 7:30 p.m., an nounced Secretary Douglas K. Sims. Purpose of the meeting la to review the past year's program, plan for the coming year, elect new directors and install officers for 1950-51. William T. Evans Jr., chairman of the local organization for the current year, expressed hopes for a large turnout. Any person re siding within Douglas county who is interested in community affairs should, if possible, arrange to at tend the meeting, he said. At this time the entire membership may take an active interest in planning the Red Cross program for their particular community's benefit All persona having contributed one dollar or more to the 1950 fund campaign have voting power and may participate in the election of chapter board members, as well as suggest program plans. , The meeting promises to be of county wide interest, since la it year there were nearly 3.5O0 bene ficiaries of Red Cross service in the county and over (.000 individ uals took part in carrying on the program, said Evans. Actual en-the-scene reports and interviews of "The Holy Year in Europe" have been compiled by MDL special events reporter John Wingate for an unusual hour-long documentary broadcast that will be aired over the Mutual-Don Lee network on Sunday (10:30-11:30 p.m.). Mr. Wingate visited the three major shrine cities of Europe Paris, Lourdes and Rome during the course of his 14,000-mile air-tour coverage of this, the holy year. He spoke . to hundreds of people throughout Europe American pilgrims visiting shrines and other holy centers, newspeper people there to report the scenes for their papers, and important personages and dignitaries. Highlights of this broadcast will be the reci tation of the Lord's Prayer by Pope Pius XII; opening remarks by Francis Cardinal Spellman, and absorbing interviews, "Chi cego Theater of the Air," usually heard at this time en Sunday night, will be cenceled this one time only, in order te permit this special "Holy Year" broadcast. BOO PEOPLE RIDES SHOWS Salvation Army Plans Observance Of Anniversary Observing the 34th anniversary of the Guards and Sunbeams of the Salvation Army in the United States, the Roseburg Corps has arranged a week-long program of activities. The week will be cli maxed Sunday, : lay 21, with the commissioning of the Sunbeams, announced Capt, Claud Bowdea. The Sunbeams are the girls un der 12 yeara. The program, slatt ing Monday. May IS, will include a lour for the group of Patterson's bakery at S p.m. On Tuesday they will wear their uniforms to school, make visita tions and recruit new members. On Wednesday after school they will visit the Douglas county. home and present a program for the pa tients. The regular meeting day is scheduled Thursday liter school. Boxes are to be packed for overseas shipment. Potluck dinner for Sunbeams and their parents at 6 p.m. is scheduled Friday. An evening of fun and fellowship is to follow. A colored scenic film will be shown. An outing for the Sunbeams i scheduled Saturday. They will cook their meal out of doors U the weather permits. Sunday school will be at 10 a. m. In the evening at 6:30. a candlelight service and commis sioning of the Sunbeams is sched uled. Brigadier Frank Wilmer, young people's secretary for the western states, Hawaii, Alaska and the Philippine islands will be here for the commissioning.
