The ladies enioyed the opportunity to walk through the landscaped lawns and inspect the flower beds in full bloom. A potluck luncheon was served at noon. A special feature of the luncheon was a decorated birthday cake which honored Mrs. Mary Smith who will celebrate her eighty-fourth birthday May 8. The honor was also shared by Mrs. Charles Green whose birthday was May 4. The business session, presided over by the president, Mrs. Corvin May 3rd for a five months trip to Oslo, Norway, visiting at Minne apolis. A. Comstock, host esses. The tables were centered with bouquets of spring flowers. A short business session was held after the dinner and the ladies quilted and visited. The executive committee was au thorized to meet with similar com mittees from other organizations in the valley in scheduling public programs and social events. Mrs. Esther Harbaugh was appointed to supervise the preparation of pro gram booklets for the year. Mrs. Violet oeter was welcomed as a new member. Guests present for the meeting included, Mrs. Carl Schmidt, Miss Gloria Wunsch and Mrs. J. S. Bussell of Garden Val ley and Mrs. Elizabeth Haines of Lemmon, South Dakota. Last Sat urday the girls took i hike to umpqua park, enjoyra tne par play equipment and a picnic lunch and returned home across the swinging bridge. The girls made May baskets with original and pretty results. A walk to Laurelwood park, games and refreshments at the home of the assistant leader, Lois Patterson, comprised activitiea for one meet ing. The girls visited Patterson's bak ery and saw the machinery and methods of baking, made felt lapel pin purses visited the Roseburg Animal hospital and completed joke acrapbooks for the hospital. Elect New Officers Tawasi Camp Fire girls elected Janet Church president of their group at a meeting held May 1. Margie Cassel will be vice presi dent; Barbara Wilson, secretary; Sandra Hayes, treasurer, Orrel Osterman, scribe. A council fire was held Indoors due to bad weather. Present were the national com mander of the auxiliary, Hen rietta Mills; state commander, Aletha Lillic; state senior vice commander, Helen Parke; 13th district national executive com mitteewoman, Viola Greene. Among visiting members of the other organizations were members and officers of the Americsn Le gion; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Gold Star Mothers, Dr. Charles Kinney of the Veterans hospital.
