HAMLIN 350,000 Northwest Veterans Receive Insurance Dividend The Veterans Administration and the Treasury department an nounced this week that thirteen million checks have bern mailed to this country's World War 11 vet erans in payment of the special dividend on their G. I. insurance policies. More t.sn 350,000 vet erans living in the Pacific North west have already received their dividends, out of the 500,000 who are eligible. While the vast majority of vet erans who applied (or the special dividend have by now received their checks, there are several million more still waiting for their dividends, the VA said. It was pointed out that it is not expected that the job of paying the dividend will be completed until the end of June, in spite of the outstand ing progress thst hss been made so (sr. Payments began January 16. Veterans who have not received their dividends were urged by the VA not to be worried i( they have not received their dividends yet, even though other veterans with serial numbers ending in higher figures have received theirs. The fact is, the VA said, not all veter ans whose serial numbers end tn low figures hsve been paid, while some vetersns whose service num bers end in 9 9-9 have gotten their checks. In a number of eases the service or serial number given by the veteran did not jib with VA records, and it was necessary to check with those in his service records. Other cases required hand processing, which was slower than the ma chine processing used (or most dividend applications. All groups of spplications that had to be handled outside the main machine production line were ex ceptions to the general rule that dividends were to be paid in ac cordance with thj three last di gits of the veteran's service or serial number. These exceptions made that rule applicable only to the majority of cases. The Treasury vill complete the bulk of its check writing by June 30, the VA said. Veterans were asked not to write the VA about their dividends between now and June 30. If they have received acknowledgments of their applica tions they should expect to receive their checks before that date.
