Oakland, Oregon Phone 472 or 542 ANNUAL STUDY CLUB GUEST DAY HIGHLIGHTED BY TWO GUIST SPEAKERS The annual spring guest day, sponsored each year by the mem bers of the Yoncalla Women's Study club, was held Thursday aft ernoon, March 16, in the Ep worth hall of the Yoncalla Methodist church. Luncheon was served at one-thirty from decorated tables, carrying out the St. Patrick's day color scheme with green tapers and bouquets of jonquils. During the afternoon, Mrs. J. L. Gault, president of District No. 2, Corvallis, spoke on "Federation, and what it means." Federated Women's clubs started 60 years ago. from a small group of women in New York. There are now over six million members in the U.S. and 31 foreign countries. The motto of the clubs is education, service, unity and diversity, the speaker said. Miss Muriel Mitchell, librarian from Rnseburg talked on county and city libraries. She emphasized that youth and adults will read, even if they are busy, if they have something to read that is appeal ing. The club quartette consisting of Mrs. Don Atkinson, Mrs. Bud Rice, Mrs. Guy Day and Mrs. Harold Turpin sang two songs, "My Wild Irish Rose" and "When Irish Eyes are Smiling." with the club presi dent, Mrs. Fred Merk as accompa nist. Forsythia and daffodil bouquets were used about the rooms. More than luo were present with all officers in attend ance. Two masters from visiting Grsnees included Mr. Wshl of Suth- erlin Grange and Ruble Bloom of Evergreen Grange, mere were 11 members from Evergreen Grange and seven from Sutherlin. Mrs. Ida Bly of No. 101, Spokane county. Wash., was also a guest. Eighteen were given the first and second degrees snd three appli cations for membership were read, followed by a report of committee chairmen. Plans were made for a social night to be held Saturday, March 2.S, at nine o'clock at the hall with Mr. and Mrs. Clem Schneider and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hess in charge. Those attending are asked to bring their own dance records. The next Grange meeting will be April 7 at eight-fifteen at the hall. The third and tourtn degrees will be conferred. All Granges hav ing candidates for these degrees are asked to bring them to the meeting. Ladies attending are ask ed to bring cookies or ssndwiches. LAZY DAISY SEWING CLUB ENJOYS POTLUCK LUNCHEON, MEETING Mrs. Wayne Overbeck was intro duced as a new member of the Lazy Daisy Sewing club at the meeting held March 16 at the home of Mrs. Marvin DeVore. Potluck luncheon was enjoyed with the tables arranged with King Alfred daffodils and plastic bas kets as name cards. The next regu lar meeting will be held Thursday. April 6 at 11 a m. at the home of Mrs. Don Carlson. The group enjoyed a while ele phant grab bag in the afternoon and datea for the coming meetings were arranged. Forty-one members were in attendance. Several meetings were announced, that of the drill team Tuesday, and the Home Economics club, March 31 at 2 p.m. at the S. W. Van Voorst home. Camp Fire Girls Club Hears Director Miss Ann Armstrong, who is re gion six field director for Camp Fire Girls, Inc., met with the Dupervoc Horizon club during her recent stay in Roseburg. She gave many helpful sugges tions for creating more interest in the Horizon club and urged attend ance at the Horizon club conference to be held in Everett, Wash., April 15. Council Fire Held Sacajawea Camp Fire Girls at Melrose held an impressive coun cil fire at the James Conn home Thursday before the fireplace. Candles lighted the rooms. Five girls were awarded their trail seeker's rank. Passing requirements for the first rank were Lola Lynn, Carol Manning, Nita Herrman, Donna Barker and Jaqcueline Matthews. Honors were awarded all the girls attending. The group practiced songs for the Camp Fire Pageant to be presented Saturday at the junior high school st 8 p.m. Mrs. Conn served refreshments to the above group and JoAnn and Dalene Busenhark, Jeanine and Louise Conn. Darlene Kruse. Judy Kettleman. Phyllis Williamson and Claudette Manning. Sunday morning the girls at tended the Melrose Community Sunday school and took part in the program. They sang seversl songs, including the lamp Hre laws. WOMEN OF MOOSE AND HUSBANDS ENJOY PARTY Women of the Moose and their husbands enjoyed a get-together party Monday evening at the Moose hall on South Stephens street. A mock radio program was presented with Bob Rains as master of cere monies, who interviewed each lady with questions designed to reveal qualifications for office in the new auxiliary as well as to identify individuals in the group. Refreshments were served at the close of the evening. These are not official meetings as the charter has not yet been granted, but are important to es tablish a foundation for forming the new group and will be continu ed until a charter is granted. The group will meet the second and fourth Monday nights of every month. The next meeting will be April 10 at 8 o'clock at the hall. All persons interested in becoming candidates for the order are rs questcd to enter their names at the next meeting. SPRING ACTIVITIES ANNOUNCED AT SUTHERLIN REBEKAH LODGE SESSION Sutherlin Rebekah lodge will judge the trailer park at the Suth erlin Auto park in July to select the neatest yard. A committee was appointed at the Rebekah meeting last week at the American Legion ball to do the judging. The lodge appointed Mrs. Bar ker and Mrs. Bielman to represent the lodge on a local civic commit tee to plan the Fourth of July cele bration in Sutherlin. Mra. Juanita Holgate will pre sent a white Bible at the Rebekah assembly. Mrs. Mabel Ross is to be installed as musician at the Rebek ah assembly to be held in May at Astoria.
