Mrs. Chandlee will be accom panied to Roseburg by the dis trict president, Mrs. James Sault, of Corvallis. BELLVIEW CLUB TO CELEBRATE THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY JAN. 18TH Bellvlew club met Wednesday it a twelve o'clock potluck lunch eon at the home of Mrs. Ethel Hoselund, at which time plans .vere made for the thirtieth anni versary celebration of the club :o be held at one-thirty o'clock January 18, at the home of Mrs. Emma Beckley, 118 S. Chadwick street, with charter members as Hostesses. Mrs. Lora Kester, president this year, was also the first presi lent of the club. The club collect was led by Geneva Elliot and the secretary's report was given by Mrs. Mattie Gosnell in the ab sence of the secretary, who was reported ill. . It was announced the February 1st meeting will be held at the lome of Mrs. Cora Collison. Members are asked to bring used Christmas cards to the meeting. Charter members to act as lostesses for next Wednesday's anniversary celebration party in clude Mrs. Emma Beckley, Mrs. Beth Boyer, Mrs. Alma Lovelace, Mrs. Bessie Pearce and the pres dent, Mrs. Kester. A short pro gram will be given, which will ncluds the history and highlights f the club years. Roll-call will M answered by members giving memory or incidents of the past. NORMAN SIEFARTH ELECTED PRESIDENT OF EPISCOPAL GUILD St. George's Episcopal Guild met Wednesday, following the celebration of Holy Communion at 11 o'clock. A potluck luncheon was served at noon, followed by a business meeting and election of officers. Mrs. Norman Siefarth was elect ed president. Other new officers include: vice-president, Mrs. Will H. Gerretsen; recording secre tary, Mrs. John Fett; correspond ing secretary, Mrs. L. K. Corn well and treasurer, Mrs. Deming Bronson. Plans for the coming year were discussed and committees were appointed. Because of the large number of business matters to be discussed the program planned for the meeting was postponed until Feb. 8. COUNTRY CLUB EXECUTIVE LUNCHEON 18 ENJOYED AT SHALIMAR ROOM MONDAY The executive board of the wo men of the Roseburg Country club met Monday at a one o'cIock luncheon at the Shalimar room. Covers were placed for Mrs. W. C. Callison, president, Mrs. Wal ter Brydges, Mrs. E. A. Pearson. Mis. W. F. Amiot, Mrs. Harold E. Schmeer, Mrs. James Hugh es, Mrs. Kenneth Bailey and Mrs. Ernest L. Dawe. Members of the Country club desiring transportation to the clubhouse for the weekly Thurs day meetings of the women are asked to call during January, Mrs. James Hughes at 143-J-2. Transportation chairmen will be appointed for every month. TOASTMI8TRESS CLUB INSTALLS NEW OFFICERS AND ENJOYS FINE MEETING The Toastmlstress club met Tuesday evening at a seven o' clock dinner at Carl's Haven with Mrs. Dallen H. Jones as topic mistress and also acting as toast mistress. One-minute talks were given by each member. Mrs. Thomas Patty gave a five minute talk telling of her early life in England, of her work as a member of the A.T.S. in that country during the war and of her marriage and of coming to the United States to make her home. Mrs. Phil Harth gave an illus trated travelogue on Mexico and showed articles and pictures of Taxco, Pueblo, Toluea and of ca thedrals visited on a trip to that country. She explained the cus toms of various cities in Mexico and closed with telling of her vis it to Mexico City. Mrs. Jack Myers was critic; Mrs. Dan Dlmick, evaluator, and Mrs. Harrison R. Winston was grammarian. Mrs. Herman Matisoff, retiring president, conducted the business meeting and installed the new officers. Plans were made for the re gional council meeting to be held at 12:15 o'clock noon January 22 at Carl's Haven. SIXTH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED WEDNESDAY BY LINDA KAY EDWARDS Miss Linda Kay Edwards cele brated her sixth birthday at a party at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Edwards Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock. The twelve little guests partici pated in games and presented Linda with many gifts. Later they gathered about the birthday table centered with a birthday cake. Assisting Mrs. Edwards were Mrs. Harold Mar tin and Mrs. Leslie Stark. Enjoying the evening with the honored guest were Terry Mar tin, Karen Trimble, Patty Moran, Karen Moran, Skippy Morgan, Bonnie Nerg, Jimmy Thomas, Bobby Thomas, Conrad Wick strom, Sharon Stark, Suzy Mas on and Dinny Mason. ZEHRUNG-JERNIGAN DECEMBER WEDDING EVENT OF HOLIDAYS The home of Roy C. Zehrung on Patterson street in this city was the scene of a holiday wed ding Sunday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. when Avis V. Jernlgan and Van A. Zehrung were married. The single ring ceremony was read by the Rev. Kenneth Knox, pas tor of the First Christian church. The bride is the daughter of L. G. Conklin of Richmond, Calif, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence D. Zeh rung of Myrtle Creek. The bride wore an afternoon gown of aqua satin and a corsage of white carnations. Her only jewelry was a watch, a gift of the bridegroom. Attending the bride was Mrs. Roy Zehrung, matron of honor, who wore a wine crepe dress and Martha, small daughter of the bride, was flower girl in a pale blue taffeta dress. Donald Zeh- aaVA - - ar. Roseburg was becoming a center of activity In those days. The population was creeping past the 2,300 mark and the newspaper, published EACH Thursday appeared under a nameplate, "Roseburg Review" with S. F. (Fred) Floed and Chas. H. Fisher as editors. To many of us now the "gay nine ties is becoming a fast-fleeting memory. Thumbing through the brown ing files of the Roseburg Refiev many items long forgotten come to light. Benjamin Harrison was president. . J. W. Hamilton, prosecuting attorney for the sec ond judicial district and Sylwes ter Pennover held the title of Governor of Oregon ... In Doug las countv H. S. French provided legal authority to the title Con stable and J. C. Shambrook was county physician. The January Roseburg Re views, announced in no bold man ner, that they "provided more reading matter for residents of southern Oregon than any other newspaper" . . . that four Prine ville hunters killed 191 rabbits in rung, nephew of the bridegroom, was ring-bearer carrying the ring on a heart-shaped white sa tin pillow. Roy Zehrung acted as best man for his brother. The bride groom, his attendant and ring bearer wore red carnation bou tonnieres. The bridegroom's mother selected a powder blue brocade dress with a corsage of red carnations. Immediately following the ceremony a reception was held and the couple cut the wedding cake. Mrs. Roy Zehrung served a wedding dinner to the wedding party at 6 o'clock. For the present the couple are making their home at Myrtle Creek. CANYONVILLE WOMAN'S CIVIC CLUB MEMBERS INVITED TO MEETING Members of the Woman's Civic Club of Canyonville have been invited to attend the Woman's club meeting in Roseburg Tues day at 1:30 p.m. at the Metho dist church. At that time two state officers, Mrs. James Gault of Corvallis, regional president of the Wom an's club and Mrs. Ruth Chan dlee, Hillsboro, state president of ine uregon woman's ciubs, will be guest speakers. VICTORY CIRCLE HAS INTERESTING ALL-DAY MEETING ON THURSDAY Victory circle of the First Bap tist church met Thursday morn ing at ten o'clock at the home of Mrs. Ida Neal, at which time work was done on quilts and also White Cross work was accom plished. A sack luncheon was served at noon with the hostess furnishing the dessert and coffee. The meeting opened with a prayer by Sarah Woodcock, fol lowed by devotions on the topic, "Love," from the scripture John I, chapter 4, by Lora Kester. A number of new books have been purchased for the circle and are available to members. Those present were Martha Merchant, Melva Mobley, Sarah Woodcock, Gertrude Hatfield, Marybclle Walker. Ida Neal, Net tie Jergens, Mae' Byrd, Ruth Bolton, a guest, Lora Kester and Floy Lee. The next meeting will be Feb. 2 at the home of Mae Bryd, East Second Avenue south. Mrs. Byrd will present the devotions and Melva Mbley will present the Missionary program. PAULINE GORE IS HOSTESS TO CLUB Busy Steppers club enjoyed a meeting Thursday at the home of Pauline Gore with luncheon at noon followed by sewine and vis iting.
