T. HAMLIN Increased Funds Budgeted For Forest Service WASHINGTON, Jrin. 10. UP) A budget ot $62,142,00 lor the Forest service for the year start ing next July 1 an increase of $1,885,110 over the estimated total for this fiscal year was recom mended by President Truman, man. Mr. Truman, In his budget mes sage to Congress, recommended an appropriation of $30,270,500 for national forest protection and management, compared with $26, 300,000 appropriated for the cur rent year ending next June 30. This includes funds needed for fighting forest fires. The recommended outlay for forest- development, roads and trails Is $12,-1G5,000 compared with $10,348,000 for this year. The budget also recommends $10,000,000 to cooperate with the states in forest fire prevention and protection and the protection of cutover lands. This is an in crease of $1,000,000 above the amount for the current year. Driving home with Fred Will iams, one of his gag-writers, after a weekend in Palm Springs, Hope started down the winding Box Springs grade last night In a rain storm. Their car started skidding on the wet pavement, swerved off the road, overturned and rammed a tree. Both men were thrown out. They walked to the highway and were taken to Riverside com munity hospital, 16 miles north west. "I feel fine," Hope said In the hospital. "The doctor says my shoulder Is dislocated but he may be underplaying it."
