be 240 feet; compared with 146
feet between piers of the present
bridge.
The present bridge Is on cen
ter street. The new one will be
a block north.
When the new bridge Is finish
ed, westbound traffic will be
routed over the new bridge, and
eastbound vehicles will use the
old one. '
The new bridge will be a part
of the Salem-Dallas highway, and
is part of the highway commis
sion's plan to relieve traffic con
gestion In Salem. ,

Hoaxer Fails In Second Attempt To Close Schools

ing moments last year when a
radio station fell for a hoaxer's
phone call and announced schools
would .be closed because of the
bad weather.
Wednesday the same radio sta
tion received a phone calfrom
a party identifying himself as a
member of Supt. Samuel B.
Fleming's staff.
"Would you please announce
that all schools will be closed
today," the party asked.
