report of the year, estimated this years corn crop at 3,377,790,000
bushels and the wheat crop at 1,146,463,000 bushels.
The corn figure Is 20,172.000 bushels more than the 3,357,618,000
forecast a month ago. It compares with last year's revised estimate
of 3,681,793,000 bushels and with, the ten-year (193847), average of
2,787,628,000.
The wheat estimate Is 20,237,
000 bushels more from the 1.126,
226,000 forecast a month ago. It
compares with last year's revis
ed estimate of 1,313,534,000 and
with the ten-year average of 991,
950,000. Production of these major
grain crops was large enough to
create a surplus requiring the
department to impose limitations
on next year's crops. Acreage
planting allotments already have
been set up for wheat and soon
will be announced for corn.
Production of winter wheat was
estimated at 901.668,000 bushels,
compared with 894,874,000 fore
cast a month ago. Last year's
revised estimate was put at 1,
007,863,000 bushels compared wit
the ten-year average of 726,553,
000. Production of all spring wheat
was estimated at 244.795,000
bushels compared with lat
month's forecast of 231,352,000.
The revised estimate for last
year as placed at 305.671,000
bushels compared with the ten
year average of 265,397,000.

Makes Visit

Wednesday evening was a
freat event for the children of
utherlin as Santa Claus made
his appearance at the foot of the
large lighted Christmas tree
which is placed in the vacant lot
near the corner of Central ave
nue and Calapodla street
' A very large crowd gathered
and listened to the high school
chorus sing Christmas carols aft
er which the award was made
for the best decorated home
which Vas as follows, Mr. and
Mrs. Brittaln Slack, ' first; Mr.
and Mrs. M. E. Groshong, sec
ong; Mr. and Mrs. Ed McCall,
third. Honorable mention was
also made to Mr. and Mrs. Hen
ry Cook and Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Trozelle.
Judges this year were, Mrs.
Keith Smith, Mrs. Edna Thomas
and Alvln Haerauff, all of Oak
land, 'me judging was done on
Tuesday evening. They stated
that the outdoor decorations were
very beautiful and commented on
the good work which had been
done in decorating and that the
Christmas trees in the windows
gave the town a definite yuletide
air.
The tree was nut un bv a ornnn
of men on Sunday, Dec. 11, and
was blown over by wind on Fri
day evening. On Sunday the men
appeared and nut the tree back
in place so that its lights would
shine again to greet people is
they entered town.

60. He was born Dec. 4, 1889, in
Success, Ark. He married Myrtle
Seefield Oct 2, 1915, at Clovis,
N. M.
He lived In New Mexico for
more than 30 years before com
ing to Drain In 1943. He was a
member of W.O.W. lodge.
Surviving besides his widow
are three daughters, Mrs. J. L.
Powell, Elida, N. M.; ' Mrs.
George Derlet, Los Angeles;
Miss Odessa Finley, Salem; one
son, Velton Finley, Eugene; four
grandchildren and a number of
