    ( Killer Of Husband
Adjudged Sane
RIVERSIDE, Calif.. Dec. 21
MP) A jury, returning shortly 1
before midnight last night, found
Mrs. Sophie Petrillo, 35, sane
when she shot and killed her hus
band, Peter, 35, in their Palm
Springs apartment last Sept. 19
She screamed at the verdict !
and had to be partly carried from
the courtroom. Last week the
same jury convicted her of sec
ond' degree murder of her plea ol '
Innocent.
She was elven a second trial on !
her plea of innocent by reason of
insanity. By being found sane,
she will be subject to the second
degree murder penalty of five
years to life imprisonment.
The court set sentencing for
Jan. 6.
Had she been found Insane, she
would have been committed to a
state hospital instead of a prison.
The prosecution asserted that
Mrs. Petrillo killed her husbanj
because of jealousy over Alma
Ross Prima, 30-year-old dancer
and ex-wife of Bandleader Louis
Prima. She had confronted her
husband in Mrs. Prima's apart
ment the night before the shoot
ing. Mrs. Prima testified that Pe
trillo, a night club operator, was
discussing a business matter with
her when Mrs. Petrillo found
them.
