Bang's Disease
Now Decreasing
In Oregon Areas
PORTLAND UP) The Bang's
disease problem in Oregon dairy
herds is lessening.
That was the report of Dr.
Charles Haynes, state veterina
rian, who said he- was "proud of
the wav we have cleaned uo the
situation In Tillamook county."
Haynes said Tillamook dairy
men have killed 52 cattle recent
ly because of the infection, and
he predicted that within" two
years tne coumy woum De ac
credited as free from the disease.
Sauvies Island farmers have
promised to cooperate in a pro
gram to clean out Infected herds
there, Haynes added.
He called upon dairymen to
raise their own heifers, not l-uy
them, as a means of controlling
not only Bang's disease, but also
mastitis and tuberculosis.
"Too often when they buy cat
tle," he explained, "they buy a
cow that has had a negative re
port on a test but which may
be from an infected herd. It may
have been exposed to the Infec
tion." Haynes spoke to a milk sani
tation seminar attended by some
70 Oregon and Washington healtn
officers. They agreed to work for
better milk, through elimination
of infected herds and better dairy
sanitation.

Chair Should Fit
To Prevent Ills,
Doctor Declares
By HOWARD W. BLAKESLEE
Auoclatcd Preu Selene Editor
Cincinnati. OR This Is
about sitting down while you
work.
If you want your brain to stay
clear, you need a . personal chair,
the Southern Medical association
was told.
"Chairs," said Dr. J. R. Garner,
Atlanta, "should be as personal as
your clothing."
iney fit lor proper sitting. And
if you don't sit right, Dr. Garner
said, nome surprising things
mental, physical anr1 psychologi
calhappen. -.
In this personal chair your rear
will extend out back a bit, to pre
vent coccvxosls. This refers to
your coccyx, .a pair of bones, like
stubby stilts, lust at the base of
your spine. They aren't real sit
ting bones, but lots of people use
them for that, said Dr. Garner.
This puts an extra strain on the
end of the spine. A properly de
signed cnair Douom wm also do
the work of the rear overhang.
The chair back needs a slightly
curving area to press forward
into the curve of your spine. Keep
ing that curve in position tends
to reduce pot-shaped corporosi
tles. The chair seat should not be
long enough to press against the
fold-back of youi knees. That
puts the feet to sleep.
Your blood pressure goes up,
said Dr. . Garner, when you sit
with the familiar forward slouch.
Dr.' Garner cites some serious
deformations : that sometimes
come from prolonged Improper
posture In sedentary work.
You know, about neuroses and
psychoses. Dr. Garner says that
now we . are also getting pos
turoses. Sweetland States
Morse Is Through
KLAMATH FALLS. UP)
Monroe Sweetland, Oregon demo
cratic national committeeman,
said the split between Oregon
liberals and Senator Wayne Morse
is complete.
Morse, a republican, had liberal
backing when he was elected to
Congress six years ago but may
not have It in 1950. .
The flnal: straw, Sweetland
said, came last Thursday when
the senator told the conservative
Oregon Farm Bureau federation
at La Grande he was standing
with Governor Douglas McKay
and the GOP for the 1950 elec
tions.
"Any hope Oregon liberals
had," Sweetland declared, "that
Morse would campaign in i5U as
an independent was wiped out In
that statement.
The deal between Morse and
McKay Is clear."
Sweetland declared Morse was
using his "perennial political de-
tween elections, then using his
independent record to help elect
"any reactionary with the GOP
label" when election time comes.
