Oct. 7 .P A Portland architect said Thurs day that low cost public housing could be built here without caus ing undue competition or disrup ting private building. Glenn Stanton told a regional CANDY KITCHEN We Make It You'll Like It 125 W. Cass convention of Pacific Northwest housing officials that the people who would use public housing would not be able, in any case, to buy privately-built homes. Stanton estimated that the 2, 000 low-cost housing units propos ed for Portland would cost about twice the $3,260 that each unit on the war-built Columbia Villa project did. He explained that such public housing, since it Is financed by 40-year federal loan and must last for all those 40 years, has to be built more sturdily than speculative houses intended for brief use. Stanton spoke before the re gional convention of the National Association of Housing Officials, which opened a two-day session Thursday. school board member.
