CLUB WOMEN MEET -
The Winchester Community
club ladies were luncheon guests
of Mrs. Jim Davidson, Mrs. Ancel
Ketcherside and Mrs. David Lewis
at the latter's home Thursday.
The decorations were cleverly
done In pink and blue honoring
Mrs. Billy Klrkpatrick, who re
ceived many beautiful gifts.
Covers were placed for Mrs.
Robert Myers and Pat; Mrs. Billy
Klrkpatrick and Billy Jr., Mrs.
Lyle Bodenner, Mrs. Louise
Ketcherside, Mrs. Chester Hafer
and Kathy; Mrs. David Lewis and
Doyle; Mrs. August Speldel, Mrs.
William Johnson and Linda and
Johnny; Mrs. Waller Reber and
Elaine; Mrs. Jim Davidson, Mrs.
Gene Pasch and Karen Kay; Mrs.
O. P. Van Horn, Mrs. Marie
Kruysman. Those sending gifts,
but unable to attend were Mrs.
Gene Rldenour, Mrs. William
Wonch and Mrs. Green.
Thursday. October 6th. the
Home Extension unit will hold Its
first meet ne. Mrs. Corlnne Mc-
Taggart, home demonstration
agent for Douglas county, will be
present to give instructions on
Streamlining home sewing." The
meeting will begin at 9 a. m. at
the clubhouse. Each person at
tending? Is asked to bring her
sewing machine if possible, also a
sack lunch and a cup. Dessert and
coffee will be furnished by the
hostesses, Mrs. O. P. Van Horn
and Mrs. Chester Hafer. All
women of the community are In
vited to join this extension group
and work toward making better
homes in the community,
TENMILE LADIES CLUB
MEETS AT POTLUCK
LUNCHEON WEDNESDAY
The Tenmlle Ladies club met
at a noon potluck luncheon
Wednesday at the church. The
attendance was small on account
of the canning season. Due to the
absence of the president, Hazel
Ison. secretary, conauctea tne
meeting.
Plans were made to hold a pen
ny supper on Friday, Sept. 23, at
sixthlrtv o'clock at the communi
ty building. It is to he in the
form of a "tacky" pa"y- Every
one Is asked to come dressed
appropriately to carry out the
theme of the party and women
attending are asked to bring a
covered dish and salad or dessert
and table service. Mrs. Minnie
Melius is chairman of the affair.
Old-time dancing will follow the
supper.
Those present were Rev. and
Mrs. Appleyard, Myrtle Burtch,
Julia Breitenbucher, Blanche
Degner, Kate Mack, Minnie Meli
us, Josie Smith, Ollle Mills, Hazel
Ison, Loue Wood and a guest,
Mrs. Mary Brlcker of Enclnltas,
Calif.
The next regular meeting will
be Sept. 28 at a potluck luncheon
at noon at the church.

TED E. COLLEY MARRY
Miss Eva Swearlngen, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Swear
lngen, of Drain became the bride
of Ted E. Colley, only son of Mr.
and Mrs. Sharon Colley of Elk
ton, Sept. 2, at the Methodist
church in Eugene with Rev. Dav
id Seaman officiating.
The bride was lovely In a pas
tel pink afternoon dress with a
high neckline. She wore a pearl
necklace, a gift of the bride
groom, and a lapel watch belong
ing to her paternal grandmother.
Her corsage was an orchid.
Only atlendant of the bride
was Miss Doris Smith, who wore
a light tan suit with green ac
cessories and a corsage of a sing
le gardenia with red rosebuds.
Parrel Swearlngen, brother of
the bride, was best man.
Following a honeymoon to
points in northern Washington,
Mr. and Mrs. Colley are now at
home to their friends at Elkton.
KELLOGG GRANGE HAS
MEETING ON SATURDAY
Kellogg Grange met Saturday
night at the hall with Grant Mad
ison, master, presiding. It was
voted to put on a Booster Night
program in the near future.
Juvenile Grange had 13 mem
bers, assistant matron and two
visitors present. Master Gary
Bullock presided at the session, j
TANDA GROUP HAS
INTERESTING MEETING
The Tanda Camp Fire girls, of
ficers and progiam committee
met Tuesday evening at the Can
yonvllle city hall to plan activi
ties for their first month of the
new year. The girls decided to
meet every Thursday after school
at the city hall, the first meeting
to be Thursday, Sept 22, to work
on their head banus.
A symbol treasure hunt is
planned for Saturday, Sept. 24,
with Mrs. Robert Proctor. Other
plans for the first month include
a tea to be given honoring promi
nent women of this community,
i Halloween friendship party and
bulb planting day.
Joyce Mault was appointed song
leader; Janet Lewis, Junior assis
tant guardian and Nancy Claxton,
sports and games leader.
Attending the meeting were:
Mrs. Ruth Baldwin, Mrs. Albert
Mault, Mrs. Robert Proctor, Miss
Shirley White (counselor at Camp
Tyee this summer), Sylvia Middle

The Oregon Chapter No. 57, O.
E. S. of Canyon vi lie held its first
meeting of the fall season Wed
nesday night. Mrs. Marion Gill,
worthy matron, presided at the
meeting.
Mrs. Margaret McGee gave a
report on Grand chapter, which
she attended in Portland this sum
mer, and also gave an account of
her trip to the National Educa
tion Association held in Boston,
Mass.
Mrs. Gill gave an account of
her trip to Kansas and Minnesota.
Mrs. Lucia Snyder reported on
her recent trip to Grand Coulee
dam, Mt. Rainier and Timberline
lodge.
Refreshments were served by
Mrs. Don Nell Kent and Mrs. Al
ien Elrod. .
Initiation will be held at the
next regular meeting.
