Fridays, at which time the social calendar and Sat urday's society page are closed weekly. HIGHS PRESENT ALTAR TO DELPHI TEMPLE, a PYTHIAN SISTERS Mr. and Mrs. E. G. High and Mrs. R. L. Eagle of Roseburg went to Forest Grove Wednesday to attend the Delphi Temple, No. 13, Pythian Sisters dinner and evening meeting, at. which time Mr. High, Grand Guard, present ed a beautiful myrllewood .altar in honor of the Grand Chief, Elma Friday. The Roseburgers were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fri-' day, while in Forest Grove. Mrs. Eagle is a former resident of Forest Grove. A special program included mo tion pictures, readings and a pantomine by Pacific University students. Beautiful floor work was pre sented by the drill team. Mr. High presented the altar in a most impressive ceremony. A number of Grand Officers were present to enjoy the occasion. Mrs. High is past Grand Protec tor. Followlne the program and . meeting, lovely refreshments were served. The Highs and Mrs. Eagle have expressed a desire for another visit to Delphi Temple, as this occasion proved so very enjoyable to everyone attending. FRIENDLY HOUR CLUB HAS DELIGHTFUL MEETING AT FENN HOME The Friendly Hour Club was delightfully entertained Wednes day at the home of Mrs. Grace Fenn instead of at the home of Mrs. Cecelia Kenyon as previous ly manned. The day was spent In painting plaques wun uaroi bungiey in structing in the work. A potluck luncheon was served at noon to: Carol Stlngley, Katie Conn, Ellen Hoffman, Norman Fenn, Hazel Bly, Clara Herrman: Belva Buckwalter, Cecelia Ken yon, Vera Thompson and Grace Fenn. CP) Britain has called the Common wealth's highest financial and economical planners to emergen cy talks on its deepening eco nomic crisis. Invitations were sent last week to Australia, Canada, Ceylon, In dia, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa. Only South Africa has so far accepted. Purpose of the meeting would be to talk over ways and means or cutting down tne drain on Brit ain's gold and dollar reserves. These have dropped from 52.- 208,000,000 to $1,884,000,000 in the past year despite Marshall plan aid and an all-out export drive. - The treasury, in the past, has been reported as considering $2, 000,000,000 the "danger point" be low which these reserves could not be allowed to go without threatening the stability, of the pound and tne country s position as banker to the sterling area.
