Maximum Interest Rate Reduction Aim of Bill SALEM, Ore., Jan. 28. .P A bill to reduce the maximum In terest rate on small loans from 3 to II per cent a month was Introduced in the Legislature by Sen. Vernon D. Bull, La Grande Democrat. The bill also provides that when an employees salary is garnisheed, no more than 10 per cent of the salary can be claim ed. Reduction of the work week of puhlic works from 48 hours to 40 was introduced in the House. Annual $600 Pay Sought For Oregon Legislators SALEM, Jan. 2S.r-(.T)-A. reso lution to pay legislators $600 a year salaries was introduced In the Legislature yesterday by Rep. ' Lloyd K. Crosby, MllwauKle. Tills proposed constitutional amendment would be referred to the people. Legislators now get $8 a day for the first 50 days of each ses sion, but nothing for the rest lot the sestiion. In 1947, in the longest session In history, the legislators served the last 24 Graduate Degree Harder To Get at U. of Oregon EUGENE. Ore., Jan. 27 (,W You have to work harder to get a graduate degree at the Univer sity of Oregon now. The grade requirements were stiffened so that a grade of D or nine hours of C would disqualify a student for further work to ward a master's degree. This was glad news to Ihe preacher, who at once began to make prepara tions for the solemn lite. A small table was brought and a bowl of water placed thereon. The Indian watched the preparation with great and glowing Interest. Ills curiosity being excited beyond control, he asked: "What Is white man doing?" "I am getting ready to bBptb-e you," was the reply. The Indian looked puzzled and remarked: "How Is wnite man Eoine to baptize Indian here?" "I have the waler here, and will soon be ready," said the preacher. The Indian looked at the minister In blank astonish ment and remarked: "White man can't get Indian In that bowl." "Oh," says the preach "I don't have to put you in Ihe bowl." "How, how baptize Indian?"
