In the afternoon, Mrs. Betty Brady and Mrs. Doris Brady pave a demonstration on "Hooked Rugs." A special meeting on this subject will be held at the home of Mrs. Frankie Sheppard, Jan. 13. Members attending are asked to bring a sack lunch. The next regular meeting will he Jan. 20 with Mrs. Corlnne McTaggart, home demonstration nrenl, in charge of the topic, "Clothes Closets." Member present decided to hold a chili supper and carni val the night of Feb. 4th, to raise funds tor the financing of the Visual Aids Program, which the P.-T. A. voted to take as the main project of the year at their December meeting. Ralph Turner, of the Senior High School leaching staff, was guest speaker using as his topic, "Arts and Crafts in Your School." his exhibit of wood cuttings by members of his art classes was very Interesting. Girl is Suicide After v Spat With Boy Friend DETROIT, Jan. 6 T- It was unbearable to pretty 13-year-old Donna Joyce that a "swell guy" like Bobby should call everything off. To "all the kids" Donna wished "better luck than I had." In the official records here her deaih was listed as a suicide. And her grieving parents dwelt sorrowfully on her request to "dress me in a black sweater and gray skirt and le-ive Bobby's ring around my neck." Donna, a policeman's daughter, was found dying Tuesday of a revolver shot In her chest. The gun belonged to her father, Pa trolman Herman Joyce. In the living room beside her lay her farewell note "I love Bobhy too much to live without him. . ." Bohhv, 17, was her high school boy friend. Recently they had quarreled. Titcomb, 803 S. Kane Street. Mrs. Dailen Jones, chairman, presided. Plans were made for the next month's activities which, for the most part, center around the usual organized routine of th? Veterans Hospital. It will be highlighted by a dance Jan. 24. A committee of Gray Ladles, Mrs. Helen Boudreau, Mrs. Miry New house. Mrs. Winifred Brown and Mrs. Rita Barcus. will be In charge of this event. Attractive decorations, trav favors and prizes will be supplied by Junior Red Cross groups from neighbor ing chaptei-s, which have formed a coordinating council to meet the needs of the patients which can not be supplied througn the Veterans Administration re sources. Junior Unit Reactivated The Junior Red Cross of the Douglas County Chapter Is being reactivated, and 46 schools, rep resenting 562R students, have en rolled. Used Christmas cards will be worked over by the children and made into menu covers ind greet ing cards for the 1949 holiday season. Persons having cards to donate for this purpose may mail or bring them to the chapter offices in the Armory First Aid to Be Taught Richard Evans, field represen tative of the first aid, water safety and accident prevention service, will conduct a class for first aid Instructors the week of Jan. 10 to 14. Those who wish lo become first aid instructors should call Roseburg 832 or visit the chapter offices at once. Th need for instructors Is urgent in asmuch as it is anticipated that before long It will be a legal re quirement that at least one em ployee in each group of 10 must have first aid instruction and be capable of rendering first aid.
