NEWS-REVIEW, ROSEBURG, OREGON, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 5, 1949 NiNf Many Holiday Dinners Given At Rice Yalley Mr. and Mrs. James Eden and children spent Christmas with Mrs. Eden's sister, Mrs. Eugene Robertson and family at Salem, Ore. Mrs. Grace Grass of Roseburg and LeRoy Owens took dinner Sunday at the Cecil Hartfoid home. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cogswell took dinner Christmas day at the Francis Cogswell home in Yon calla. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Litherland and their grandson, who is visit ing them from Portland, took Christmas dinner at the tome of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cox and daughter. Mr. and Mrs. William Castor entertained at Christmas dinner, Mr, and Mrs. Harry Dunbar, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Kldwell and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schosso. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Warner are driving a new '49 Packard. Granddaughter Born Mrs. Phil Huntington returned Sunday from Coos Bay where she has been taking care of hor daughter-in-law and new grand daughter, Cheryl Ann, who was horn Dec. 6 to Mr. and Mrs. Col lis Huntington. Chervl Ann Is their third child. Phil Hunlimilon went to Coos Bay and took Christmas dinner with his son and family, driving home Sun day with his wife and also bring ing his granddaughter, Frances, who will spend a lew days at the Huntington Ranch. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Parsons of Eastsound, Wash., Visited a few days last week at the Ernest Warner home. Mr. and Mis. Par sons were teachers in the Yon calla High School prior to their moving to Washington. Son is Born A son, Robert Lee, was born Tuesday, Dec. 21. to Mr. and Mis. Harvey Bragg. Mrs. Bragg will be rememlx'ied as Hollev Jean Fast of Rice Vallev. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Shepherd and children, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hartford and children, Mrs. Clara Hartford, Mrs. Grace Grass and Bud Grass took Christmas dinner at the Elton Grass home In Yon calla. , Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wyant took Christmas dinner with" the George Owens family. Russell Owens of Drain visited at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Owens nf Rice Valley during the holidays. Christmas visitors at the J. 3. Evans is a member of the Ore gon Mtate Guard Cavalry Re serve. He joined the Red Cros-i Pacific Area staff in April, 194-1, alter many years of volunteer work in this field. Most of the combat swimming courses given at military posts on the Pacific Coast during the war were han dled by him. The Douglas County Chapter plans to enlarge its first aid pro gram to provide instruction i.r first aid and establish much needed Highway First Aid .Sta tions. Irving Jr., mem ber of the Roseburg National Guard company, left Tuesday for tu Justus, va., to attend an eigne weeks course in motor maintenance. First Sgt. Harold Reynolds, who made the announcement, said ihat it is contemplated "very shortly." that men of the company will be sent to other Army schools for similar training. Seven men recently have en listed in Co. D, 18tith Infantry, the local guard unit. They include Del bert Neibaum, Michael Maloney, Donald G. Snvder, Albert C. Schat lenkerk, Robert G. Ra'liff, Donald E. Mask and Glenn O. Brocksome.
