Bayocean Freed Of
Damaging Storm
TILLAMOOK, Ore., Nov. 5.
(JP) Communications with the
isolated community of Bayocean
were restored today as the third
storm of the week subsided along
the Oregon coast.
The community, lying on the
slender Bayocean peninsula be
tween Tillamook Bay and the Pa
cific, became an island two days
ago when (he ocean tore a 200-
foot gap through the land spit.
A bulldozer pushed up a path
from Cape Menrs to the commu
nity and automobile traffic to
Bayocean was expected to resume
late todav.
The force of the latest storm to
strike the coast passed over last
nigiu with little new damage re
ported.
All along the coast, however,
were signs of a fierce battering
the worst this section has had
in nine years. It was a combin
ation of unusually high tides plus
giant waves kicked up by storms
that mil tne damage.
Uncounted small boats were
battered and docks wrecked. Logs
were tossed onto beach cottages.
At high tide water swept into the
streets of the city of Taft. Waves
even licked over the coast high
way, and debris littered the route
at a number of points.
