SECTION 2 Page FIVE v5 NEWS-REVIEW, ROSEBURG, OREGON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1948 1 Senior Boy Scout Activities Told By Morris Roach Jr. Morris Roach Jr., wearing his Sea Scout uniform, ave com prehensive report on activities of the Senior Bov Scout Troop of Roseburg at the Kiwanis Club Tuesday noon. He reported that whaleboat sponsored for the Troop by the Kiwanians has been tied up at the Coos Bay Yacht Club harbor, and permission has been granted to operate from that point. Measurements have been taken for a superstructure, and plans are to construct it later, he said. Roach reported on the forth coming Court of Honor, which the Senior Scouts are sponsoring Nov. 8 in Junior High School. A land ship will be constructed on the stage, and an interesting pro gram is being worked out, he said. The Senior Scouts now have three program committees, one for outdoor activities, another for indoor activities and a third for social events; afld the program is varied to provide interesting meetings. Each takes Its turn in sponsoring a program. He invited parents and others to the meet ing of the Scouts. The Kiwanis charter member 25th .anniversary party will be held the evening of the second Tuesday in November. Horace Berg, committee chairman, re ported. The party, originally scneauiea ior next Tuesday, was postponed because of election that day. Lewis Fullerton, Chamber of Commerce president, announced the meeting of the Chamber lurum juncneon next Monday, when Dean Seegar, Eugene city iimiiagei , win ine speaKer, brought death to Glynda Mae Frazier, 22 months, and Sherry Kay Frazier, 5 months, daughters of Pvt. and Mrs. Norman Frazier; and 7-month-old Steven C. Huf- ford, son of Sgt. and Mrs. Del bert Hafford. The mothers of the victims and the grandmother, Mrs. Ivan Fra zier, 41, were burned when they made repeated attempts to reach the children. Sgt. Hufford Is stationed in Japan with the U. S. 15th Air Force and Pvt. Frazier Is on duty in Texas. Active Club Hears Conference Report, Plans for Dance Report on a Distrirf 3 Club counsellors conference at orants fass faunday was made by Ray Alder at the Roseburg Active Club's weekly meeting Wednesday morning in the Shall mar room. The report included a comprehensive account of what other clubs in Oregon are doing to promote community projects, and methods being used to raise unances to turther their work. Gene Gilpin, district governor, will be a guest at the club's meet. Ing next Wednesday night at the Del Rey Cafe, it was announced. A report was made that the club is sponsoring a dinner dance for members and their wives at the Country ,Club Nov. "13 at 8 p. m. tnis will be a "hard-time" party, according to Arlo Jacklln dance chairman. The first -in a series of public speaking provided the morning's program, when Ken Attcrbury gave a iaiK on "Marble." After bury traced the history of marble. discussed how it is obtained and processed and listed many of its uses. Atterbury was introduced by Louis Adamski, public speak ing chairman. 2nd Trial Frees Man ' In Poker Game Slaying MEDFORD, Ore., Oct. 27. ,T) Jrorrest Wilson has been acquit ted of the slaving of John B. Can den in a 1946 poker game by a Jackson County Circuit Court Jury that he-rd his retrial on the charges. The jury exonerated Wilson after an hour of deliberating last night. A second trial was ordered by the Oregon Supreme Court on the ground that the instructions to the jury In the original trial were in error. In the first trial Wilson was sentenced to life in prison. Camden was fatally wounded by a shotgun blast when a masked man attempted to hold up a poker game, in a neighbor hood garage. Wilson had left the game snortly before the shooting. "Those American boys who did It had to have escorts on long jumps, you know," said the red haired Cambridge, England, housewife, who learned to fly on weekends. She was referring to George W. Truman and Clifford Evans of Los Angeles who passed through Japan a year ago on a globe-circling flight In a Piper Cub. They had an escort on the hazardous route to the Aleutians. Mrs. Morrow-Talt, accompanied by Navigator Michael Townaend, landed her British Proctor plane here yesterday on a flight from Itazuki, Kyushu. They left Cal cutta five days ago after a seven weeks wait for plane parts. The British fliers plan to take off tomorrow for Hokkaido,' 325 miles north of Tokyi. From there they will make their longest over water hop of 1,778 miles to Shem ya In the Aleutians. From Shem ya, Anchorage, Alaska; White horse, Canada, and the North At lantic route back to England "if the weather permits." They won't enter the United States unless forced to take the South Atlantic route by weather conditions.
