Moscow'! propnganda gum are
hammering so hard at Iran that
American diplomatic authorities
are wondering whether Russia
is considering a new move in
that part ol the world.
Four Moscow radio broadcasts
assailing the Iranian Govern
ment and criticizing conditions
in the oil-rich Middle Eastern
land were recorded In a single
day this week by U. S. Govern
ment monitors. A secret "Azer
baijan Democratic Station" Join
ed in the anvil chorus with two
additional verbal attacks.
The campaign has been going
on tor months, but It appears
now to be increasing In intensity.
In Iran itself there have been
other signs of livelier Soviet in
terests. Hence Hie official spec
ulation that Russia may try pres
sure in that area to divert at
tention from the Berlin crisis.
Iran Is a recognized strategic
soft spct. It was the scene of a
mis-fired Russian adventure of
two years ago. Soviet occupa
tion troops finally were pulled

One Moscow broadcast this
week charged the Iranian gov
ernment with failing to carry
out an amnesty order freeing
pro-Soviet leaders rounded up
after the Russian troops with
drew.
Another claimed that Iran Is
about to enter an Arab bloc
which "will serve the interests
of the Anglo-Amerlean monop
olists of the Middle East."
A third reported that danger
of "famine" is increasing in
Iran.
Meanwhile the clandestine Az
erbaijan Station was calling the
"Shah, Iran's ruler, a traitor be
cause of his talks with British
officials in London.

Fair Opens With
Record Prize List

38th annual Pacific Internation
al Livestock Exposition opened
here today with a prize list total
ing $126,955, the largest on rec
ord tor the show.
Nine evening and four after
noon horse show and rodeo per
formances will be presented be
fore the exposition closes Oct.
9.
Visitors to the exposition build
ing, the largest in the west cov
ering 11 acres, will see exhibits
from 24 Oregon counties, other
states and territories and even
foreign countries. Alaska and
Mexico will exhibit this year for
the first time.
Besides a big entry list from
4-H Club boys and girls and
members of the Future Farmers
the top livestock in the west
will compete for the awards.
The poultry premium list totals
$1600, and there's a special bar
ley prize of $2000 In cash plus
a combine harvester.
A special feature of the horse
and rodeo shows will be the
appearance of the Royal Canad
ian Police drill team. It will be
the group's first public perfor
mance since before the war.
Poultry Judging starts today,
but the main livestock Judging
will not begin until Monday.

Oaks, Seals Again
Lose in Playoffs

Both lost their second straight
in Governors' Cup playoffs last
night.
The pennant-winning Oaks fell
again oefore Los Angeles, 9-7,
and the runner-up Seals were
re-bopped by Seattle, 2-0.
Los Angeles did It with hom
ers. Aberson smacked one with
two on, and Dellessandro and
Lukon duplicated, each with one
on. The last blow made reliefer
Buxton the loser.
Carlsen, young righthander,
shut out the Oaks for the final
four frames to gain the win af
ter replacing Lynn. Oaks' Fer
nandes and Combs homered off
Lynn.
Seattle's Schanz out-twirled
Werle for the Rainier victory.
Werle had trouble with old Bob
Johnson, who hit a homer and
later singled and scored on

Prize for 'Smallest Buck

Umatilla county deer hunters will
have their guns cocked this year
for "small bucks."
The Pendleton Fish and Game
Club is offering a "little buck''
prize of $25. Winnsr will be the
hunter who downs the lightest,
lecal two-point deer.
A club official said the prize
was offered "in the interests of
wildlife conservation." He said
State Game Department officials
had endorsed the contest.

EXAM PLACE CHANGED
Drivers license examinations
will be held in the Chamber of
Commerce offices instead of the
City Hall Oct. 7 and 8 and Oct.
14 and 15. The teamporary
change in location for the exam

Hall will start next week, it was
