Motor Vehicle Registrations In Oregon Increasing Oregon motor vehicle registra tion! are continuing their climb to new heights with 572.261 list ed to the end of August, a 12 per cent gain over last year. Sec retary, ol State Newbry has re ported. At the same time, registration fees have dropped far below 1947 collections, Newbry said. He ex plained the decrease Is due to a change In the method of register ing trucks and buses. Such ve hicles now pay a highway use tax, with license fees greatly reduced. Buses led all other classifica tions in percentage Increases with a gain of 59 per cent over 1947, the secretary said. Motorcycles and pick-up trucks have Increased 24 and 23 per cent respectively. The two largest groups, passeng er cars and trucks, have each gained 11 per cent. Passenger reg istrations now total 431,670. He added that additional re ports of deaths through the month of August Improves the fatality decrease to 14 per cent from the figure for last year.
