The final score, 6-1, Is an Indication of who played bet ter ball. Studs' man Fawcett wielded the big stick Sunday afternoon, getting two doubles, a single and a homer in four times at bat. Three hits, good for as many runs, were piled up in the first inning by the Central Point boys, and after It was merely a matter of waiting for the final Inning, to make the Chiefs' last league game legal. The Roseburg team certainly didn't have everything In their favor to start with, what with Bruce Hamilton's pitching arm sorely In need of rest, but there were no relief pitchers to put in the game, so it was Hamilton or nobody. The Central Pointers manased to get at least one hit in each inning except the seventh. On the other hand, the local team managed to do almost the re verse. It was probably Fawcett who broke the back of the Ump- ?ua Chiefs, when he connected or a home run In the first of the fourth Inning, putting Cox across the platter and the Indian sign on the Chiefs for a score 01 o-u. I After that, the starch went out I of the home team, and Hamil- ton's pitches came across the I plate so casually the opposition i could hardly connect. Montgomery scored the only 1 run for the Chiefs In the latter , half of the ninth, thanks to two i errors by the right fielder and i shortstop. I Paul Gehman, Stud pitcher, was top-flight material as far as I this game was concerned. He's an ex-Cincinnati clubber, and also pitched with the Los Angeles team of the Pacific Coast League, before coming to the Studs' fold. While not too many people danced and the V.F.W. didn't much more than break even financially, the dance from an entertainment standpoint was reported a suc cess, according to James Marr, commander. Judy and Her Jug Heads provided the music. Funds received will be turned over to the V.F.W. hospital and welfare fund. FISH POISONED NORTH PORT, Wash., Aug. 30 iPi It was fish day In rortn port homes today. The state game department poisoned Deep Lake yesterday and 300 people visited the lack to pick up the poisoned fish. Rotenone used; to kill trash fish In the lake does not affect humans so the fish are edible. The lake will be planted with game lisn later. Amateur Rodeo Performers Stage Interesting Show With the benefit of perfect weather, a good arena, and well conditioned stock, the Trail Dust Saddle Club's third annual Stam pede was termed a "success" Sun day, but spectators were prom ised "a bigger and better show next year. In the opening day of the ama teur rodeo Saturday, Princess Virginia Veoller provided the show with one of Its thrills, when she was thrown from her horse in the starting line-up in the ladies' poney express race. She immediately climbed back on her horse and lost no time In Joining the race. Despite her fall, she came in first to win the S3 first prize and a merchandise award. Actually, it Is a sort of official census of draft-age men, the Associated Press re ported. Only a fraction of the millions who register will be drafted into the armed forces for a 21-month stretch during the next two years. Maybe one out of every 42. For example, all 18-year-olds and veterans will register, but those under 19 and moat ot the veterans are exempt. And mil lions ot others will be deferred for various reasons. But they must register, anyway. Most of those eventually induct ed will be under 22. And almost all ot them will serve in the Armv. The Navy, Marines and Air Force hope to fill their ranks with volunteers. If you are in the 18 through 25 age bracket, this will brief you on registration: First, locate your nearest regis tration center. The nation's 4,000 odd draft boards have organized about 20,000 of them. Next, If you are a veteran, dig up your discharge papers. You need them to check on dates and service. Men must register by age group, so check your birth date and find out which day you are supposed to sign up. If you were born In 1922 after August 30, you register today. There won't be many in your bracket, and draft officials nave said not many 25-year-olds will be Inducted maybe around 7,000 in all. Tomorrow and Sept. 1 a larger group win register men Born in 1923. The schedule then goes on like this: Men born In 1924 register Sept. 2-3; 1925, register Sept. 4 or 7; 1926, Sept. 8-9: 1927, Sept. 10-11: 1928, Sept. 13-14; 1929, Sept. 15 16; if born in 1930 before Sept 19, sign up Sept 1718. If you aren't 18 by Sept. 19, vou register on the day of your 18th birthday, or within five days of it. But you won't be eligible for the draft until you are 19. You're just getting your name in the "census. If you are 111, or otherwise just can't make It, notify your draft board and they will register you later.
