The Bunyans in the picture are: (back row) Don Cum, Tom Pargater and Wayne Crooch; (bottom row) Bill Pyle, L. B. Hick., Bleite Claska (honorary member from Eugene), Bud Tosier and Al Mc Bee. The second picture shows the Bunyan's float, number 42 in the Saturday morning parade, when the turkeys were released, advertising the Northwestern Turkey Show in December. On the float are Crooch, Tosier (with his head obscured by a turkey), Pyle, Gum, Hicks, Perg eter and McBae. The third pic ture shows a small boy scramb ling for possession of turkey. Both white, broadbreasted tur keys and bronze turkeys were thrown to the crowd. Each had a tag which read, "Feed me, make me grow, 'bring me back to the Northwestern Turkey Show Dec. o to 10 at Rose burg." Other Bunyans who par ticipated but not eppearing in the pictures were Abe Bean, acting Bull of the Woods in place of Jack Josse; Bob Lay tell, keeper of the conse quences, Bill Millhollen and Sid rrednckion. "Summer driving is less haz ardous than winter driving, of course." Newbry said. "But what motorists tend to forget is the in creased chance of death In any accident, due to higher speeds and heavier traffic." The Secretary blames much of the state's recent large death toll on high speeds induced by good roads and weather. In a survey of accident figures, he points out that the chance of death in any accident Is more than twice as great in clear weather as in rain. Similiarly, the chance for death is greater on a dry high way than on wet, snowy, or ley roads. "A moment's thought will show that this apparently un usual experience is due to slow er driving speeds under the ad verse conditions." Newbry de clared. "The chance for death drops as speed drops. If we gave heavy traffic the same considera tion as a driving hazard we give to rain or snow, our summer fatality rate would be cut in half."
