Gleaton and children, Marilyn, Patricia Ann and Robert J., of Lorii, S. C, who have been spending the week in Roaeburg as guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Rand and family in Laurelwood, were com plimented at an enjoyable pot luck picnic supper Monday night at Umpqua Park. The Cleatons are leaving Monday for Los An geles. Rev. Mr. Gleaton was for merly pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church South in Rose burg. Ballard of Los Molinas, Calif., and Mrs. Albert Busta of Long Beach, Calif., who are visiting in Rosebura with the Slg Felt family. A delicious steax dinner, pre pared by Mr. Berg, was served on the patio. The table was colorful ly decorated with a white cloth and clever figures matching Mr. oerg s cook s outiit. Those enjoying the occasion were: the guests of honor, Mrs. Ballard and Mrs. Busta, mother and aunt of Mrs. Fett, Mr. and Mrs. Slg Fett and daughters. She was crowned Miss Laurelwood In a neighborhood beauty pageant staged by the younger set last week. She turned a toothless smile to ward the News-Review photog rapher Thursday In an Interview and across her front she wore a home-made banner which read, "Miss Laurelwood of '48, Miss America of '62." She didn't say a word. She had plenty to say after be ing crowned, however, her first words were, "Mommie, did I do alright?" The contest was held at the Fred Chapman home on River side Drive. The members of the audience acted as judges, and af ter a rather uncertain decision resorted to drawine straws to de termine the lucky winner from among ine lour contestants. When Interviewed, little Mls Chapman wore a blue two-piece naming sun, a royal niue crepe paper cape and a sparkling gold crown resplendent with her mothers best Jewelry. Her feet were clad In white barefoot san dals, and she was presented with a bouquet of Sweet William. Has Femlnlns Mind As to her likes and dislikes, Sherrill claims white as her fa vorite color; when first question ed named ice cream as her fa vorite food, but woman-like later changed her mind In favor of cheese sandwiches. After posing In front of a bush of hydrangeas Sherrill decided "maybe" they were her favorite flower. As to future ambitions, she was again a little uncertain but said she would "Just like to get married and have a home and then sorta be a nurse." Blonde, brown-eyed Sherrill is the daughter of Sir. and Mrs. Jack Chapman of 957 Riverside Drive. She has two sisters, Ralna Lynn, seven, and Kay Suzanne, four. Improving Seldon Smith, who was severely burned in a gas ex plosion several weeks, ago, is re ported to be steadily improving at Mercy hospital. The family re cently sold their residence on the Calkins road and are now mak ing their home on Mosher street. Miss Sherrv Smith, who was called here by the serious condi tion of her father, has returned to her home in California.
