many's No. 2 Nazi, was convicted
yesterday of being a Nazi, but
was set free immediately.
She got a sentence of one year
in a labor camp from a Garmlsch
i denazification court but was freed
since she already had spent Is
months In camp awaiting trail.
The court found the former
actress and widow of Reichsmar
shal Hermann Goering to be a
Nazi "offender," despite the 55-year-old
woman's claim said she
never joined the Nazi party.
The court also ordered 30 per
cent of all her property confis
cated. Frau Goering blamed her
plight on Hitler. She said he or
dered her name put on Nazi
party's rolls In 1938.

Mrs. Holcomb said in her com-

McElligort to Return
To Grants Pass to Live
Following the report that the
U. S. District Land Office in
Roseburg would be closed effec
tive July 30, Richard McElligott,
acting manager, announced at
Grants Pass this week that he
would return there to make his
borne.
A one-time Josephine County
commissioner, McElIlgott served
as register of the Land Office
here from 1944 until Its consoli
dation last year under the Bureau
of Land Management. He has
since served as acting manager.
The office was ordered to be
closed In an executive order
I signed by President Truman last
week. The land offices at Lake
view, Ore., and The Dalles are
also to be closed and the activW
ties transferred to Portland.

Wage Hike Averts Strike
Against Ford Motor Co.
DETROIT, July 22 IIP) A 13-cent-an-hour
wage increase for
116,000 CIO production workers
today erased a national strike
threat against the Ford Motor
Company.
Climaxing more than 21 hours
of nearly continuous negotiation,
the CIO United Auto Workers
also won increases In premium
pay, vacation Improvements, and
a group insurance plan revision.
The union estimated these
"fringe" benefits would total an
additional 3 to 4 cents an hour.
The UAW-CIO also estimated
the annual increased cost to Ford
of the new contract at $32,000,
000. The firm made no estimate.
The revised contract expires
July 15, 1949. .

time the family had been to
