And statuesque Cathy Downs Is the lovely lady who spends the $50,-000. 7T 1 Amputees' Auto Request Deadline Extended One Year The deadline ror obtaining the vehicles under the "autos for amputees" program was extend ed until June 30. 1!H9 by recent legislation. The previous dead line was June 30. 1W8. Congress extended the law an other year to assist veterans who are still In hospitals or who have not yet applied for vehicles. Q. How long must a World War II veteran he totally disabled to be entitled to waiver of premium payments on National Service (G.I) Life Insurance?. A. You must be totally disabled six or more consecutive months before applying for waiver of premiums. Regular payments should be continued after apply ing until notified by the VA of approval of your application, at w hich time arrangements may be made for refunding unnecessary pavmems. World War II veterans who lost the use of one or more legs, at or above the ankle, have an other year in which to apply for automobiles or other conveyances at government expense. His first, adapted from the play, "Heading for Heaven," which was produced on the Coast several years ago, is currently showing at the Star Theater with Glenda Farrell and himself in the leading roles. Stu has long wanted to man age his own company, and when he mentioned the fact to Director Lewis D. Collins, the latter of fered to join in the venture, and suggested "Heading for Heaven" as a perfect vehicle lor the first production. Their enthusiasm spread to George Moskov, long associated with independent motion picture ventures, as production manager. Next to Join the group was Russ Vincent, a young actor who has been making a name for himself lately. The quartet, who call them selves Ace Productions, intends making a half dozen comedies of the type which has twvome known as "homespun." The first "Heading for Heaven," has Jack Schwarz as executive producer. Early-Day Student Of Roseburg Passes BANDON, July 20.-Mrs. Ra chel Edna Greig, first school teacher in Bandon, died July 7 at her home on the Hoffman farm at Powers Junction, the same house In which she was born January 1, 1862. Funeral services were held Friday at Myrtle Point. After attending school at Wilbur and Rosehi rg, she came to Bandon in 1883 to teach the first chool opened here. Mount McKinley Scaled by Three Alaska Students FAIRBANKS, Alaska, July 21. i.T Three University of Alas ka students claimed today to have .conquered North America's highest peak 22.270-foot Mourn McKinley. One of the climbers, 25-year-old Walter Oonnason of Carnation, Wash., Informed the Fairbanks News-Miner .by telephone that the trio reached the summit at 1 p. m.. July 13, after a 25-day trip from Wonder Lake, north of the mountain. With him were Charles Pieper, 25. of Deerfield. III., and John McCall. 25, of Eapln, Colo. Two companions Philip Spalding, 25, of Vermont, and Ed Huizer, 24, of Maine were un able to continue past the 18,000 foot elevation, he said. They re mained In camp during the one day assault on the top. Gonnason said the party had only five days of Rood weather during the climb over the route blazed a year ago by a cosmic ray research expedition led by Bradford Washburn, nationally known mountain climber.
