FROM NINE TO FIVE By Jo Fischer Twenty-three Force Recruiting Main Stations throughout the Sixth Army area are getting set for prelnductlon processing of the first group of selectees referred to them by local draft boards under the new Selective Service em, General Mark W. Clark, Sixth Army com mander announced today. Recruiting Main Stations au thorized to process all selectees and volunteers are located In the Oregon District at Eugene, Port land, and Boise, Ida. Registration of all 18 to 2V It Is contemplated that the first examinations In the Sixth Army area will take place on or about September 22. Following the pre-lnductlon examination, the registrants will return to their homes to await report on their status through the local draft boards. In most cases this will take approximate ly three weeks. Only $295 Phone: 408. 21-Month Period Of Enlistment In Army Permitted A new enlistment period of a montns nas oeen authorized by the Army for young men 19 to 25 years inclusive, T'Sgt. wooa row w. mislead, station commander of the Roseburg Army and Air Force Recruiting Station, announced today. Pre viously, the Army would not allow enlistment for less than three years, with longer enlist ment terms of four, five and six years. Men who enlist for the 21 month term will be transferred to the Enlisted Reserve Corps on discharge from the service. The reserve obligation may be can celled, however, by extending their enlistments one year. Sergeant Halstead said recruit ing officials look for announce ment of the new, shorter enlist ment term to cause a spurt In recruiting; among draft-age men. since it enables them to complete ineir military service in less man two years. Expansion of the Army and Air orce will open the ranks of thousand of non-commissioned onicer grades, the sergeant said, and men who volunteer now will have completed their training and be qualified as leaders by the time Selective Service gets into lull operation. W. W. Weekly, Native Of Douglas County, Dies MYRTLE POINT, July 21-Fu-neral services will be held at Schroeder's chapel here for Wil liam W. Weekly, 64, who died Monday at Sacred Heart hospital in Eugene. Burial will be in Dora cemetery. A retired logger, Mr. Weekly lived in Coos county many years. He had lived in Eugene the past eight years. He was born in Douglas county. Survivors include a son, Clar ence, Blue River; three sisters, Mrs,. Opal Barker, Coqullle; Mrs. Irene Steele, McKlnley, and Mrs. Edith Cowan, Marcola, and two brothers, Edwin Weekly, Valsetz, and Smith Weekly, Newport.
