She alto wore a. pink petticoat, a big diamond ring bright i a firefly, and a solemn coco -colored makeup that crinkled as sh talked. But the thing that made Con gresswoman Helen G a h a g a n Douglas the toast of the Demo cratic convention last night was her mixture of mature beauty and her political earnestness. She ws the Democratic answer to the glamour challenge raised by the Republicans three weeks ago when they featured Clare Boothe Luce as a convention speaker. And Mrs. Douglas was ready to take up that challenge! Men politicians may not learn from each other's mistakes but smart political ladies Whether Co ngress woman Douglas or ex-Congreswoman Lure is the most glamourous gal in politic Is a hair-pulling ques tion among feminine supporters of the two ladies. It was the speech of a strong and aggressive man delivered with the finesse of a woman re calling her husband to forgotten duties. And she really stirred the convention with her electric fer vor. Paul F. Johnson, man ager of the Eugene office advise. mis is particularly true ot in dividuals who change their jobs i often. Many persons when going i to work for an employer give tneir social security numner from memory or from some personal record. According to Johnson, such practices often result In an Incorrect social security account number being reported to the Administration. Employers should Insist upon seeing a new employee's social security card at tne time he is nireij. It be does not have a card, he should be requested to obtain one immediately. Women wage earners who have changed their names because of marriage should ask the Social Security Administration to change their social security cards to show their new names. Failure to do so has resulted In employ ers repoVting wages for women under a marriage name which is not shown in Administration records. This causes considerable difficulty in crediting wages to an individual's old-age and sur vivors Insurance account. Johnson set forth this rule for employers to follow: "Report wages only under the name and numner shown on a person a soc ial security card. Insist upon see ing the social security card."
