Mrs. Jack Marls conducted a short business meeting and Introduced the guest speuker, M. W. Slankard, cily manager of Rnsrhm-g, who ex plained fully the advantages of the city manager plan. Mr. and Mrs. Slankard were guests of the evening. The next regular meeting will be May 12 at 2 o'clock at the I. O. O. F. hall. PYTHIAN SISTERS MEET WEDNESDAY EVENING Pythian .Sisters met Wednesday night at the K. of P. hall for a social. Plans were made for the Belter Baby Show and pageant to be held III Roseburg In the near future. It was announced initia tion will be held for two candi dates nt the next meeting to be held May 5 at 8 p.m. at the K. of P. hall. A social hour followed and de licious refreshments were served. KIDDER, MONDAY The Business and Professional Women's Club has invited the public to attend a reception Mon day night, May 3rd, from eight to ten o'clock at the Elks Terrace ballroom honoring the Oregon Mother of 1948, Mrs. S. L. Kidder, of Roseburg. Background music will be fur nished throughout the evening by the Naomi Scott and Ott ensem bles. Mrs. C. S. Heinline will have charge of the program, which will consist of numbers by the Scott String Quartet; baritone solos by Leroy Hiatt, accompanied by Mrs. Gordon Slewari; address of welcome by the club president, Mrs. Alvin Helgeson, who will in troduce Gov. John Hall and will present to him, Mrs. Kidder, who will be escorted by her son, Rob ert. Gov. Hall will address Mrs. Kidder and bestow upon her the citation of honor and merit, which has recently been awarded her. Prominent guests including the Oregon State Committee, together with Gov. Hall. Mr. and Mrs. b L. Kidder, Mayor and Mrs. Albert Flegel, and representatives of the local women's organizations, East ern Star, Parent-Teachers Asso ciation and Dr. Morris H. Roach, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will compose the re ceiving line. Mrs. Roy Bellows and her com mittee will be in charge of the tea table with Mrs. Velle liroad way and Mrs. H. O. JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB MONDAY Members of the Junior Wo man's Club will hold a seven- thirty o'clock potluck dessert-sup per at the Armory lounge Mon day night, at which time the group will sponsor a shower of gifts for the Camp Fire camp equipment. The group sang, "Let The Beauty of Jesus Be Seen in Me." followed by a prayer by Mrs. Edith Ackert. Mrs. Calvin Baird firesented an Intensely interest ng devotional on "Vitamins for Health and Spiritual Vitamins of the Scriptures." Mrs. Hollingsworth sang "Give of Your Best to the Master," ac companied by Mrs. R. D. Knigge. Mrs. Hollingsworth had charge of the program topic, "Our Youth," and gave responsive readings with Mrs. Connelly on "Courage." Group singing of "I Would Be True" followed, after which Mrs. Louis Kohlhagen, Sr., gave a talk on "Where Do We Find the Drink Problem." Mrs. Connelly gave ft reading, 'The Cocktail Snare." Mrs. Fred L. Southwick gave a report on the L. T. L. work and stated that four more home meeting places had been secured for the organi zation in Roseburg. Ai tvell M.euUel. 1 Lions Club Sees Movies of Alaska Motion pictures taken by Don O'Bannon on a recent trip to Alaska were shown as the pro gram feature at the weekly Lions Club dinner meeting in the Umpqua Hotel Thursday night. During the business session, Dr. Bruce Hetrick reported that the Miss Roseburg contest, of which he is committee chairman, is get ting under way,' and that a num ber of prizes and awards have been donated by the merchants who have been contacted. Bill Unrath, Rodeo food con cession chairman, reported his committee is functioning, and ask ed for volunteers next Thursday night after the meeting to assist in a cleanup at the fairgrounds, weather permitting. President Forest Losee remind ed the organization that officers would be nominated at the board of directors meeting next Tues day, that further nominations would be from the floor during May, and election will be in June. Phil Harth requested the names of all members planning to attend the state convention in La Grande June 5, 6 and 7 to make hotel reservations. Several indicated their intentions of going.
