Tremalne, secretary of the Music Week Committee summa rized it as follows: "The United .States hag become a nation of music lovers, and is now generally recognized as such. What is equally gratifying is that there have been notable advances In the quality of the work of American composers and in the apprecla- uun oi American music, mere has likewise been an increasing acceptance of American music In other countries. All types of musical numbers have been planned for this annual program under the auspices of ine jviusic icacners Association. The public is cordially invited to attend. There will be no admission charge. LADY LIONS ARE ENTERTAINED AT TEA BY GROUP Lady Lions were entertained at an afternoon tea recently by mom- Mrs or tneir camp f ire group from Benson School. The affair was held at the home of the guardian, Mrs. W. H. Allen at 130 uiakeloy street. Camellias were used for decoration and during the afternoon Miss Noroon Allen played several piano selections. Attending were the Mesdamcs James Bewley, Clifford Smith, Ftolla Wells, Cecil Lowe, Forrest C. Losee, Bruce Elliott, Thomas C. Hartfiel, J. P. Motschenbacher, L. M. Lehrbach, Phil Harth, Rob ert R. Elliott, Norman Slefarlh, Lady Lions and two olher guests, Mis. B. R. Shoemaker, Sr., and Mrs. B. R. Shoemaker, Jr., and Mrs. Allen. In charge of the tea were Miss Carol Kimball, Miss I-eola Loren zen, Miss Dorolhy Dale and Miss Mary Elma Smith. O. Sisterhood entertained the senior girls of the High School, and the women of the High School Faculty at the charming home of Mrs. K. D. Lylle on the afternoon of April 2.1rd. Mrs. G. W. Marshall, pre sident of the Rosebuig chapter, welcomed the girls and intro duced Mrs. B. A. Young, who gave an Informative talk on the P. E. O. Educational Loan Fund, available for young women desir ing higher education, and the P. E. O. scholarships award annual ly by the Oregon Slate chapter. Mrs. Young also gave some inter esting information regarding the P. E. O. Cottey Junior Cottage for Girls in Nevada, Missouri. This school is fullv accredited. and offers unique advantages to the students enrolled. It s the only Junior College in this coun try owned and operated by a women's organization. Mrs. R. W. The meet ing was In the form of a lunch eon and was presided over by Mrs. S. A. Warg the retiring pre sident. Mrs. Lula Gorrell was an hon ored guest and spoke on her 8 years as County School Super intendent, also explained the county school budget and urged parents to vote. Mr. Paul Elliott also was a guest and talked on the city school budget and the importance of voting. Highlights of this year in PTA work are, 16 organizations in Douglas County with 8 being organized in the last 2 years, an all high membership gain of 40 per cent. A laree raln In na. "tional P. Many rural PTA's also sponsor and car ry on hot lunch programs. This years theme, 'HTounceling with the Council," was carried on in the four council meet ings. Topics covered were legis lation, radio, student aid, parent education, committee work, and support of the school budgets. The council sponsored a school of instruction for officers when 8 state officers and committee chairmen were in Roseburg to conduct the school. The council also brought the picture "Hu man Growth" to Douglas Coun ty to be explained to parents preliminary to its use in the public schools in social hygiene classes. FOOD SALE TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY A cooked food sale will be sponsored Saturday morn ing, May 1st., at the Roy Young Real Estate office on West Cass street under the auspices of the Knights of Pythias Girls Drum Corps. The group will continue the sale for four Saturdays. All money raised on the sales will be urd to help send the Corps to the Portland Rose Festival. Patron age of these food sales will be appreciated by the Corps. FAIR OAKS GRANGE HAS MEETING TUESDAY Fair Oaks Grange, No. 684, met Tuesday evening with Henry Frotscher, master, presiding.
