from the University of Oregon
he went to the Philippines in 1938
as a purchasing agent lor me
Navy. He and his wife, the form
er Lucia Booth, secretary in the
office of the High Commissioner,
were interned in faanto tomas
and Los Banos after the fall of
the Philippines. During his period
of Internment, he became pro
ficient In the Chinese, Japanese,
German and Spanish languages
and has since entered the service
of the State Department and is
serving as a vice-consul in China.

ing. Funeral services were held

Mrs. Welsh resided in Rose-
burr for many years. A sister,
Mrs. Katherine McGregor of
Portland, survives.
