Scouts to Attend Regional Circus Preparations are being made by several Douglas County Boy Scout troops lor particiDation In the Scout circus to be held at MacArthur Court, Eugene, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17. Scouts from Lane, Benton, Coos, Curry and Lincoln counties, also will take part. Admission will be 50 cents per family. Sutheriln Railroad Job Nears Completion Ballasting and laying of rails and ties for a portion of the Weyerhaeuser Timber Co. rail road at Sutherlin is expected to be completed next week, it was reported by B. K. Samuel of Hal sey, Ore., contractor. Samuel, who started work Feb. 7 with a crew of 20 men, held a contract for laying 2 J miles of ' track, including the classification yard at Sutheriln. Contracts have not yet Been let lor the remaind er of the 18J-mlIe line. In the Sutheriln city limits, the Weyerhaeuser railroad in cludes a classification yard of tour tracks, each being about 2, 000 feet long, and a Y" at the Junction with the Southern Pa cific tracks. New 110-pound rails are being used. Elks Lodge Sets Initiation of 14 Acceptance of 14 candidates for membership was voted by the Elks lodge here Thursday night, and plans were made for initia tion, the first to come under the recently Installed new officers, on Thursday night April 15. The candidate include Fred Anderson, Byron C. Brown, Don ald R. filnnz, Elmer Kills, Ralph Gray, Glen Chile, Rudolph Ash baugh, Harold Woollcy, Wayne Larson, Carl Meske, Chester Stilt nor. Alleged Cancer Cure Phony, Panel Of Medics Finds SYDNEY, Australia, (VP) A government committee found that John Braund's alleged ape Iflc cancer cure amounts to an outstanding public mischief. The committee said that in no case it investigated had the 79- year-old Sydney layman proved his claim he could cure cancer. I hey said his cure Included in jections of alum. A formal Inquiry by a panel of 12 physicians was made after Premier James McGlrr of New South Wales ordered an investi gation into Braunas claim. Braund had at one time said he welcomed a committee inves tigation of his cancer treatment, but later reversed his stand. Ho said ho wanted laymen to make the inquiry, not physicians, saying the latter would be prejudiced. The committee report was tabled In the New South Waies parliament. It said Braund's sneeiflc cure for cancer was injection of alumn under the skin. It said this caused the death of certain tissues and a consequent separa tion of a slough (dead tissue breaking away) claimed .to be tne actual cancer. ; Braund's ' claim last January got wide publicity and patients came here from five countries for treatment. James Hugh Wampler Of Yoncalla Passes Away James Hugh Wampler, 58, died at his homo in Yoncalla April 8, after a short illness. He has been a resident of Yoncalla for the liast seven months and of the state for the past 18 years. He was a member of the Metho dist Church and American Le gion, and saw service In World War 1. He was horn in Hicknell, Ind., on Aug. 3, lHS'.l, and was married In Vincennos, Ind., July H, 11)22. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Opal A. Wampler; two daughters, Joyce E. and Barbara Ann Wamp ler; two brothers and two sisters, Scott Wampler, Florence, Willis Wampler, Uarahaldi; Mrs. Cora M. Powers, Vimvnnes, and Mrs. Elizabeth Sailers, Hicknell, Ind. Services will lie announced lat er, pending word from relatives. Arrangements will be in pare of the Stearns Mortuary, Oakland.
