MARCH I. 1948 i Society and Club, By LOTUS KNIGHT PORTER VALENTINE PARTY GIVEN BY CLUB HONORING HUSBANDS Husbands of members of the Cakipooia Ladies Club were guests of honor at the annual club Valentine parly held at the clubhouse Saturday evening- The clubhouse was very lovely with the Valentine motif being car ried out in the decorations. The tables were attractively decorated with red carnations, red tulips, tall tapers and hearts. Various games and visiting were enjoyed following a very lovely dinner. Covers were placed for Mr. and Mrs. Cal Henry, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Roadman, Mr. and Mrs. I-ee IllKley, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Rich ardson, Mr. and Mrs. Welch, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Winniford, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Bacon. MISS HELEN CASEV TO PRESENT CLUB PROGRAM Miss Helen Casey will present the progfam for the Roseburg Woman's Club meeting to be held Tuesday at one-thirty o'clock at the armory. Mrs. George E. Houck, president, reports the pro gram will be of special Interest and all members are urged to be present. Musical numbers will be presented on the proTam. Members of the club are asked to bring articles to the meeting to be shipped to the club's adop ted family in Holland. Oak GRANGE CONFERENCE TO BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY A state Grange conference will be held Wednesday at 1:30 o'clock at the Riversdale Grange hall, fol lowed by a potluck dinner at 6:15 o'clock. Those attending are asked to bring a hot dish and either a salad or dessert and their own table service. The evening session will open at 7:45 p. m. All grangers arc invited. W. 8. OF C. 8. HAS FINE MEETING SUTHKKLIN The Women's Society of Christian Service held a meeting and potluck dinner Thursday at the Methodist church with Mrs. Stella French, Mrs. Gula Crowell and Mrs. Dorothy Clark as hostesses. The meeting was opened by the president, Mrs. Verna Geddes. Mrs. W. C. Watson had charge of the Devotionals, on the topic "Love Divine," followed by a song, "Love Divine, and closing with a prayer. Mrs. O, L. Torrey had the urogram for the after noon, which was a quiz on the Bible. It was voted to have a rum mage sale on March the 6th and Mrs. Torrey, Mrs. Geddes, Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Cooper were ap pointed as a committee to make arrangements. It was also voted to serve a lunch at noon and the following committee was appoint ed to take charge: Mis. Cotton, chairman, to be assisted by Mrs. Comtock, Mrs. French, Mrs. Kunkle and Mrs. Sheffcl. Those present were: Mrs. D. W. Beck, Sirs. W. C. Watson, Mrs. O. L. Torrey, Mrs. Jesse Cornier, Mrs. Orville French, Mrs. William Crowell, Mrs. Earl Cotton. Mrs. Myrtle Kunkle, Mrs. Harold Jones, Mrs. C. D. Stillwell. Mrs. Douglas Geddes and the follow ing guests: Mrs. Coor, Mrs. Mac Donuld and Mrs. Ida Martin. MU CHAPTER TO HOLD MEETING WEDNESDAY - Mil Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi will hold a meeting at eight o'clock Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. John Killip In the Parkinson building. The regu lar cultural program will be pre sented. All members are request ed to be present. OREGON CHAPTER TO HOLD REGULAR MEETING Oregon Chapter, No. 57, O. E. S., Canyonville, will meet Wed nesday evening at 8:15 o'clock at the Odd Fellows hall. Florence Hill, worthy matron, wdl preside. Members and visiting members are invited. JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB TO MEET THIS EVENING Miss Annalorls Ward talented vocalist, will present special mus ical numbers at tonight's meeting of the Junior Woman's Club to Be held at eight o'clock at the armory lounge. Mrs. Carl Was som, president, requests all mem bers to be present. Following the meeting and program, re freshments will be served by Mrs. Clyde Crenshaw and Mrs. Clifford Collins. COMMITTEES FOR SADOLE CLUB ARE APPOINTED MYRTLE CREEK Myrtle Creek Saddle Pals met this week and the following committees were appointed: entertainment. Jim Rose, Mrs. Ava McGarley and Mrs. Margaret Knutson; safety. Mel Hanna, Earl Leach and Del King; publicity, Mrs. Phyllis Christian, and historian. Mis.-. Marilyn Ncwcombe. It was decided for the club to meet between 8:30 and 9:00 o'clock March 5 at the club to go In a bodv to the dance at the I. O. O. F. hall. Members and friends are asked to wear riding attire. Hampton of Roseburg, and to also honor candidates for iniiiation and parents of candi dates. The affair will be formal for liethel pirls. At seven-thirty Mrs. Hall will hold her officials inspection of ritual work of the Heihel and 14 girls will receive degrees in the order. CALAPOOIA CLUB HAS INTERESTING MEETING Mrs. Opal Munson, Mrs. Evelyn Richardson, Mrs. Hazel Haines and Mrs. Dorothy Day were hos tesses at the luncheon meeting held by the Calapooia Club at the clubhouse Wednesday. The table was attractively decorated with a centerpiece of red carna tions and red tapers. Potted red tulips were used about the room. The invocation was riven by Mrs. Dollie Urben. Followin" the luncheon, Pollyana "ifts were exchanged. Mrs. Doroth" Wil liams, president, conducted the meeting and plans were made to hold a series of evening parties in th'! next few months, to which the public will be invited. The first party will be in the form of a box social the evening of March 13. Five hundred, pinochle and bingo will be in plav, after which the boxes will be sold. Members are requested to bring card tables, cards and other games. A pink and blue shower was given Mrs. I.ee Higley and Mrs. Ted Roadman, who also received lovely corsages. They were as sisted in opening their lovely gifts by Mrs. Emma Hunter, Mrs. Thelma Broszio. Mrs. Isabel Brit tain and Mrs. Hone Henry. BIRTHDAY PARTY IS ENJOYABLE AFFAIR SUTHERLIN A group of friends went to Roseburg Tues day to help Douglas Martin cele brate his fourth birthday. Douglas was very much sur prised. He received many lovelv gifts and all joined around a beau tifully decorated cake and sang "Hiippy Birthday." The occasion was also the birth day of Kenny Schultz. Those enjoying the affair were: Mrs. Henry Bullman and son. Burton; Mrs. George Schultz and son, Kenny; Mrs. Cliff Townsley, Mrs. Ivar Swanson and son. Grant, Mrs. R. L. Martin and sons, Douglas and Glen. A very lovely time was had by all. JOLLY CIRCLE CLUB MEETS AT LYNN HOME Nine members and one guest enjoyed the meeting of the Jolly Circle Club at the home of Mrs. Virgil Lynn Wednesday. WINCHESTER COMMUNITY CLUB HAS FIRST MEETING The first meeaing of the Win chester Community Club was held Friday at the schoolhouse with Eugene Ridcnour being elected chairman to conduct evening meetings and Edgar Miller ap pointed chairman of refresh ments and Ralph Jacobs, chair man of programs. It was decided to meet the first Friday night of every month. Mrs. Raymond Miller made a report on a roler skating party. A short entertainment was presented by the school children, followed by an old-fashioned spelling bee hy the adults. Com munity singing closed the pro gram. Light refreshments were served by Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil DavLs, hosts and hostesses, assisted by Mr. and Mrs. Ted Foresburg, Mrs. K. Ridcnour and Mrs. V. Van Horn.
