It Is more or less the same, in principle, as calling a man a murderer. When you do that, you want to be sure of your facts. Any mind capable of straight thinking must come to the con clusion that what Is happening In Bulgaria (and, of course, else where In the communist sphere) Is just plain murder. THE odd part Is that screwball thinkers Insist that commun ism Is a LIBERAL movement. For thousands and thousands Of years, Retting Into power and then killing off your opponents has been the method of reaction aries throughout the world. THE communist thread runs through all the news. In Washington, Attorney-General Clark says "there Is no use trying to outlaw the communist party, because that would drive the members underground." If you have read fahly widely on the subject, you will recall that when our ancestors were hunting practloners of "Witch craft," back In that tragic and awful period In our early history when people let their base and Ignorant passions get the better of them, the more ardent of the witch chasers almost always beat themselves on their breasts and bade one and all to BEHOLD WHAT GOOD AMERICANS WE ARE and what good and plouj people. There have been time (rather frequently, It must be confessed) when the methods of the chair men of our house committee on un-American activities have smacked somewhat of the meth ods of the witch hunters. WHAT we ought to do, it seems to this writer, Is to approach this really necessary business of spotlighting communism In our country In a spirit of simple, sin cere FACT FINDING. If we are to do that, we must get simple, sincere, patriotic men In charge of the job. If gone about right, nothing can be more Important than bringing out all the FACTS about communism and Its nieth ods and those who arc running the communist movement In America. Cottage Gior Roseburg Indians Post Yictory Over North Bend, 36-29 Roseburg HIrIi Indians retali ated last night for the two de feats handed them at the first stage of this year's basketball season by posting a 3G-to-2'J win over the Bulldogs on the '4S hoop record. The first shot was attempted by North Bend's Hugh from side court which bounced off the rim of the bucket and Into the side lines. It wasn't until after one minute and 20 seconds of score less playing with good defensive work on both sides that the first tally was marked up for Rose burg by Bob Schlndler. The first quarter score was 11 to 5, Rose burg. Jerry Corn connected with two of his three shots, all from near mid-court, during the game. Some spectacular long shots were made by Hugh and Clark of North Bend. In the first stages of the see--nd half, Coach Vic Adams ham pered the success of Roseburg's previously effective close shots by smiting irom zone to man-to-man defense, and marked up 8 points before the Indians could raise their guard. Roseburg called time out and returned to effect an advantage of 28 to-21 at the close of the third, i-ach of the teams scored 8 points during the lourtn period. Daryl Blanc-k of Roseburg dis played his usual control of both backboards and his proficient ball handling. The teams meet again tomor row at 7:45 following a prelimi nary between Drain's Varsity Wwriors at 6:20. Roseburg count ed 8 of 14 free throws, North Bend 7 of 11.
